Friday had come quicker than I had anticipated.

Although it had only been three days, I had no word from Kai or if we were still even going to this thing together.

Besides, I had just gotten my apartment the way I like it.

The furniture was here, my bed, all of my things. I've been so distracted with moving I've barely talked to anyone.

My Mom was distant, but she usually is when Dad's home. Much to my luck, I'm going to be seeing them tonight. They're attending as special guests. I guess my Dad wants to impress the people he's trying to form an alliance with by throwing a party.

Yep, my Dad's the one throwing the party.

I was cutting my sandwich when suddenly my phone began to ring.

"Hey Mom." I said, licking the mayonnaise off my fingers, "Hey hun." She sounded nervous, "Hey, you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine. I'm just wondering if you're going to your fathers ball tonight?" She asked me like she already knew the answer.

I stood confused for a moment, "I am, why?"

"Do you have a date?"

I nodded, realising she couldn't see me, "Yes. Mom, I'm confused. Why are you asking me these questions?"

"I'm just telling you to be careful, alright? You know what your father is capable of." She said the last part in a whisper. "I'll see you tonight."

She hung up the phone without another word.

When five o'clock rolled around with no word for Kai, I decided to get ready anyway.

The only problem, I didn't have a dress.

My fathers Swingers Ball was an annual thing. Except when it's invite only, you know it's business.

There's usually a banquet, then speeches and then guests are free to roam, then it's meetings and back to business.

I hated them, they always bored me. This time though, it may be different.

The sun was slowly beginning to go down and it was so magical to watch it from the windows of my apartment.

I'd showered, put my hair up and started my makeup. I was just applying my lipstick when there was a knock at the door.

"Hello miss sorry to bother you, but a package has arrived for you." Logan, the doorman smiled. "Thank you Logan." He brought the package inside my apartment and left quickly.

I unzipped the suit bag, confused as to why someone would send me a suit, until it unzipped completely and there was a silver dress inside.

I admired the fabric. But what caught my eye was a note inside.

It fluttered to the floor and I bent down the pick it up.

Apologies for being MIA sweetheart, been busy.
I'll pick you up at 6.

- Kai

I blinked, my fake eyelashes touching my eyebrows as I looked at the time.

5:54pm

Oh for fucks sake.
