Convincing a Skeptic

He didn’t want to believe the truth.  He kept on shaking his head ‘no’.  Maybe he was just as scared of vampires as I was until I realized not all of them were black souled monsters.  He started being hysterical.

                “Nessia, come on, be serious.”

“It’s true Austin! Think about it! You found me in Ledive forest drinking the blood of a squirrel, then I ran faster than a cheetah out of there because I didn’t want you to know about me,” I looked around and took a broom stick.  I easy broke it in half and looked back up at  him. His mouth dropped but he quickly jerked it back up.

“Are you trying to convince me of something?” He asked. I threw the left over pieces of the broom on the floor, now I was pissed.  I took a mop that was made out of pure metal.

“Why are you so damn stubborn!” I yelled at the top of my lungs. I snapped the mop in half like a twig. I took the two snapped off sides then put them together and snapped them again. Then I threw them in the air putting a hole in the ceiling. If that didn’t convince him I don’t know what else to break.

Now his mouth stayed open, “ H-How did you do that?”

“ I told you Austin, I’m a vampire, why won’t you understand me or at least trust me?” I yelled, “ I’ve been though shit thinking about if I should trust with this secret!” He looked stunned. His mind was filled with so much information right now  I wouldn’t be surprised if his mind exploded.

“I just don’t understand,” he toke a seat on a metal chair against the wall,” Maybe if you told me the whole story----maybe I would understand more.” He looked at me with that look in his eyes, that glimmer of want, that sparkle of really caring, a stare I haven’t seen  in his eyes ever since the day of my mistake.  I toke a seat on a face down bucket.

“It’s a long story,” I told him. He looked at me with the same entrancing stare that made me think about telling him the whole story in the first place. I sighed a deep longing sigh then began my long, gut wrenching tale.

“Nessia Connor is my real name until I was murdered by Kaitlin Coust..”

“Kaitlin Coust? The girl who moved out of state when..you..supposedly died?” He asked. I looked at him awkwardly.

“ Supposedly? I did!”  I told him getting a little peeved.  He put his hands in the air like the police told him put his hands up.

“ Continue…” He stated moving his finger  around in a circle.

I sighed and continued. I told him everything, how Kaitlin lied, how Julia and Maky weren’t my sisters even though they were my sisters,  I told him about my parents, how I decided to go back to school. I even told him about Day of Age. I was scared at first, but I thought if he could handle me being a vampire he could understand Day of Age, or at least understand how it works.

He stared at me blankly after I told him everything I thought of at the moment.  I could read his eyes a little.  He just had a little too much to process. I understood and stood up.

“A little too much to process?” I  asked pushing the flipped over bucket to the corner of the room. He stared up at me.

“Just a little.” He slightly laughed.  I smiled a slim smile, I missed the normal conversations, laughing, smiling, what friends would normally say and do. I knew that things between me and Austin would change drastically, but I hope now since he knows basically everything we can catch up from wasted time.

“You know,” He finally spoke, “ it must of took you a lot of balls to build up the courage to tell me this.” I felt bashful. Was he complimenting me?

“ Well, I thought it would be a little easier to have someone  understanding on the other end of conversation,” I smiled at him a little. I think I saw a little dash of pink along his cheeks.

My smile vanished quickly when I suddenly realized what was happening. Were me and Austin flirting with each other? He realized my smile fell apart.

“What’s wrong?” He asked seeming like he actually cared. I tried to think of an understandable excuse.

“Austin, I-.” Someone opened the Janitor door.  The man had gray hair and dark brown eyes. He was wearing a normal light brown janitor suit. He had a broom in one hand and in the other hand he was dragging a cart full of supplies. He looked didn’t look surprised that there were two high school kids in his closet, he looked almost bored. He sighed a deep sigh drowned in dullness.

“It’s always the janitor’s closet,” He sighed once more, “ I blame television.”  He pointed out into the hallway. We walked out quickly to try to get out of the cranky old man way.  Both me and Austin looked at each other with a half scared look and a half droll look.  The man looked at us with the same boring look he had when he found us and walked away like he never saw us.

I sighed in relief. Then looked over at Austin. He realized I was staring at him and he smiled slightly. I walked over to him.

“Well I guess our conversation is over,” I smiled again, “ thanks for listening.”

“No problem, it was just nice that you told me before the questioning ate me alive,” he laughed. I joined him.

We started heading for our next class room together.  We finally got to the locker bank where people were getting ready for lunch. So, me and Austin headed our separate ways, but then he stopped me.

“I’ll see you on Saturday,” he said. I was confused.

                “What’s on Saturday?”

“ Hopefully our first date,” He said as he casually walked to his locker.

It was official me and Austin were finally dating.
