Genesis
Two weeks had gone by and every single day I had watched Clyde everyday including the weekend. King had been so wrapped up in finding Nate he didn't even know what was going on. He haven't talked to me or Kas for the two weeks that i had been babysitting Clyde. He left early in the mornings and came home late in the middle of the night.
For the last couple of days Kass would cry herself to sleep over him. She wouldn't eat, talk, or even sleep until King actually paid attention to her. I mean who could blame her. I hadn't felt this abandoned in a long time. I understand he was doing this to protect us, but you can't tell us you love us? Everyday he leaves , it's a possibility he could be gunned down or anything. But this is what I asked for when we we got together.
Michael spent more time with us than King and he was focused on the same thing. But I guess things will change when this is all over. It was about 7:30 p.m and i was cooking me and Kass dinner while she sat in the den watching Home.
I heard the door slam making me furrow my eyebrows. Was that King? He hadn't been home this early in months. I stirred the gumbo a little more before setting the wooden spoon down. Just as soon as i pulled my hand away , King came storming into the kitchen.
"Hey baby." I smiled widely , extremely happy excited that he might be eating dinner with us.
"Don't fucking hey baby me! What the fuck makes you think you can go around changing shit without talking to me? What in the hell even makes you think you have the RIGHT to touch my pictures or any of my damn belongings!?" his nostrils flared. My smile instantly dropped.
"Excuse me? What are you talking about?" I asked.
"Kelsey's pictures I had on the tables and on the fireplace, where did you put all of her shit? Because i know i ain't move em."
"Yes, i took them down and put them in your guest room. Why doe she still have to be all over the place? It does nothing but bring up old sad and depressing memories. Who wants to see that? I'm trying to make this more like home. They're making Kassidy sad. It only reminds her she has one parent and she's slowly losing him." He mugged me. If looks could kill I know my ass would be 6 feet under.
"How you gone tell me what's best for MY child. She ain't your daughter. This ain't your house. Them pictures don't belong to you. Me or Kass don't need you." He spat with so much venom it made me cringe. Those words kinda hurt my feelings.
"You know what ? I'm so sick and tired of hearing you try to tell me off when you are very much incorrect. Did you know Kass cries herself to sleep over you because you can't even tell her good morning or kiss her goodnight!? "
"And you fucking didn't cause all you're worried about is nate. Nate Nate Nate fucking Nate. Did you know Kass barely eats sleeps or even talk because she misses you! You haven't spent one second with us since her birthday party. All you do is fucking work."
" You love the streets more than us. Kass is my fucking daughter. She IS mine. I take care of her. I do everything you're supposed to be doing. I'm the closest thing she has to a parent. I do everything i can for her. You don't. I cook , i clean, and i manage to take care of Kass. You know how hard that shit is ? You're so focused on Nate-" he cut me off.
"I wouldn't have to be if you never showed up," He spat at me coldly. Tears formed in my eyes as i nodded. I brushed past him.
"If that's how you feel, I'll just leave." I walked upstairs grabbing a bag I put a couple outfits and pairs of shoes inside then grabbed all my hygiene products before slinging it over my shoulder. I jogged back downstairs and sat it down. King had kass on his lap while they talked. Kass had this bright look in her eyes with that wide smile.
"Come here Kassidy baby." They both looked at me . King with a glare and Kass with a smile. She hopped off his lap and ran to me. I bent down to her level.
"Yes Gene ?" she asked innocently.
"I have to leave for a couple days but i promise i'm coming back as soon as i can. ." her smile dropped into a frown as she clung to me.
"No Gene please don't leave. I don't want you to."
"I'm coming back Kass, I promise."
"Pinky swear?" She asked holding out her pinky. I nodded locking mines with hers. I glanced at King once more before leaving out. I grabbed my phone and keys and left out. I got in my car and started it before driving off the estate and down the street. I pulled out my phone searching for the best place to stay. I called the hotel and booked myself a suite.
In about 30 minutes i was pulling in front of Aloft Harlem. I got out and the doorman came and got my bag while valet gave me a ticket and took my keys. The man opened the door for me while tipping his hat.
"Madame," he said with a deep accent. I walked to the desk. "Hello, welcome to Aloft Harlem. "
"Yes, I called reserved a room about a half an hour ago. Genesis." He typed something into the computer.
"Ahh, Yes." he smiled. He programed my card and wrote the wifi code on top of the paper card holder and charged my card .
"Your room is on the twentieth floor. The Presidential suite, our most recommended room. Our pool is on the fifth floor, straight through the fitness center, and right here in the lobby is a business center. You get 30 free minutes before the hotel charges any extra minutes to your card. There are free fresh refreshments available if you would like some as well. The elevator is straight down this hall ." i nodded taking my key and thanked him.
I followed and took his instructions to the elevator. I pressed the arrow up and stepped back waiting. I saw it light up and ding before a couple stepped off, talking in another language. We exchanged polite smiles as I stepped on, pressing the number with the number 20 labeled on it. I also took notice that it was the highest floor besides the roof.
The back wall of the elevator was glass giving me the perfect view up the city. The lights of the city were so beautiful. I felt the elevator jerk and start moving and I became fascinated with the city lights. Everything looked so peaceful from here. The lights shone brightly. What a coincidence the song in the elevator softly played Empire state of mind by Jay Z.
I chuckled snapping pictures from my phone. The elevator stopped and i turned seeing 20 in the digital letters. I stepped off the elevator and looked at the sign on the wall. I followed the arrow down the empty hall way to white double doors with a golden key slot. I slid my key and opened the door stepping inside.
"Wooooow." i said mesmerized as I spun around. I heard a knock on the door. I opened it seeing the man with my bag. I grabbed it and gave him a tip. He smiled and nodded before leaving. I walked to the right wall that had a large window on it. I gazed through it looking at the buildings and lights. A smile broke out across my face. For one night, I could finally be at peace.
----
Two Days later...
I got out my car, yawning. I grabbed my half full large Caramel Frappe from the cup holder. I got my bag and dragged it up the sidewalk. I unlocked the door and stepped inside. King was fully dressed standing in the middle of the living room with his hands folded behind his head. I closed the door and dropped my keys o the table in the foyer then walked past him to the kitchen so i could start breakfast for Kass.
"Genesis.." He trailed off. "Can we talk?" He asked looking me in the eyes. His eyes had no expression but his voice and words leaked of hope and sorrow.
"Nope." I said turning my back to him as I opened the fridge getting out the milk and eggs for the waffles.
"But Gene,Man..- " i cut him off with a chuckle.
"Just leave King. Just leave how you do any other day. Just leave since Nate is more important than us. Just go." I sniffed looking down at the counter. He sighed. I heard him pick up his keys and left ... He left.
