Hawkins, Indiana, 1986

"PSST Y/N," your friend, Sawyer, whispered. You glanced at him, still fiddling with your pencil. "Delilah said we have to meet up at lunch." He informed you. You nodded giving him a thumbs up. Delilah was your co-leader of the club for the school paper, you ran the whole thing.

You glanced at the clock again. The class was almost over then you had your lunch period, good. You had done most homework yesterday but since you had soccer practice you couldn't get your science work done. But that was whatever, you would get it done during lunch.

Finally, the bell rang and you grabbed your satchel. You put your notebook in it and then stood up, since you sat in the front, you were usually first out the door. But today was different. "Y/n, I'm gonna have to ask you to stay behind for a moment," your teacher hummed, Mr. Holmes, interrupting you mid-step.

"I'm sorry sir but I have a meeting to attend and—"

"It'll be quick, I promise," he interrupted. You took a deep breath, returning to your seat in the front of the class. "Munson, I need you to stay as well." As soon as your heard his name, your hands clenched into fists. What did you have to do with Munson? You sat back at your desk, glancing to look at Eddie. You were a bit irritated, to put it blankly. He caught your gaze and flashed you a smirk, making you scoff.

When the class aired out fully, the teacher called both of you up to his desk. You could feel his heavy gaze on you, you chose to ignore it but it made you shaky. You didn't like the kid. Why? He's kinda the reason 7th and 8th grade was more than hell for you. He wasn't a bad person, you just were irritated by him. Sometimes he was cool, other times he was obnoxious.

Sometimes you admired him, sometimes he acted like an idiot. And you just couldn't understand people who didn't try in school. Like are you not afraid of being stuck there again? The embarrassment? Do your parents or guardians have nothing to say about it?

"I kept you two here after class because I have something to tell both of you," he started. You felt your hands fidgeting with your pencil, eager to leave the room. "Y/n, you will be tutoring Eddie for the rest of the semester."

You felt the whole world drop onto you. Like hell, you were tutoring him. Maybe he should stop slacking off and focus on school so he could get out of this hellhole. Whether he graduated or not, that had nothing to do with you. He only talked to you if he needed to copy your homework or needs your notes.

Your teacher could already tell by the look on your face that was screaming no. "All I require is 2 hours of study time at least 3 days a week," he spoke up once more. "And you already have the experience."

"I just don't see why I have to do it. Especially if I think it's not worth my time. Munson slacks off purposely and skips class, I don't want to help or be around that type of person. With all due respect, I refuse to tutor him. I have other things to use my time on," you explained as if Eddie wasn't standing right next to you.

"You are our top student, in all classes. Eddie is our lowest, that's what you have been chosen,"

"I didn't want to say this but I'm afraid it's my only choice. Your grades will be affected by his. If he fails a test, you fail as well. Your grades will be linked until I see improvement in all of his classes. So think wisely, you can let this drag you down or you can be the bigger person and hold the both of you up,"

The room went silent. You stared at the two, still internally throwing the biggest fit ever. You were acquainted with the guy and now you were supposed to carry the both of you through school.

"You are now dismissed." Mr. Holmes began packing up his things and then walked out of the room.

"Look Munson, I still don't like you. I'm not doing this cause I like you, I'm doing this so I can graduate. Also, I know you're not stupid if you were wondering. Anyways, we can meet up after school may be at the library or the parking lot I don't care, and figure out a time and get a schedule together," you finally turned to face him, constantly looking at him then the floor. Were his eyes always that pretty?

"Can't do that," he winces.

"What?" you finally look back at him entirely.

"I have somewhere to go,"

"Where could you have to go on this one day that's so important? It's just a quick meet up then you're free," you narrowed your eyes at him.

"I have to meet with someone else, nothing too serious. And besides, I have a meeting with the HellFire club tonight. But you," he pointed at you. "You can start brainstorming what these little sessions are gonna be like."

You scoffed and stormed out of the room. You could hear Eddie's footsteps as you made your way to the lunch. "Sugarcube!" Delilah waved you over. You rushed over to the table. "We were waiting for you! Come on, I'm starving," she stood up.

"Sorry!" you chuckled. "Mr. Holmes held me up, I'll tell you everything when this meeting is over,"

Holmes held me up, I'll tell you everything when this meeting is over,"
