i walked into my first block class. i looked to the back of the classroom, and i spotted juniper. like yesterday, she was scrolling through her phone with an airpod in her ear.

i walked to the back of the classroom, and i sat down in my assigned seat. i turned my body towards juniper.

"hi," i greeted.

"hello," she mumbled, though she didn't turn to face me.

"whatcha doing?" i quizzed.

"nun ya."

my brows furrowed. i tried to steal a glance at her phone, but my brows furrowed even deeper when i saw the screen. "your phone isn't even on..."

"yes, it is."

"no, i literally just saw a black screen," i deadpanned.

she sighed. she briefly showed me her phone screen, proving that it was on. "i have a privacy screen protector."

"what? why?" i let out a small laugh.

"this is why," she sent me a look. "people are nosy as hell."

"my bad," i gave a cheeky smile. "i'm just curious, bro. i can't help it. especially if you tell me that it's 'nun ya,' or some shit. that was on you!"

she let out a small hum, but didn't verbally reply. instead, she continued to pay attention to her phone. i sighed, and i let my head fall into the desk.

"you gotta talk to me, juniper," i groaned. "i'm dying here!"

"that sounds like a personal problem."

before i could respond, the teacher started speaking. i groaned again.

i guess i won't even bother trying to talk to juniper while the teacher is teaching; every time i tried to yesterday, she just told me to "shush" or to "shut up," before she turned her attention back to the teacher!

it's now nearing the end of first block. the teacher has wrapped up teaching for the day, and the bell is about to ring.

"you just really don't like talking, huh?" i asked as i peered down at juniper. i was standing up, and i was leaning against my desk.

"i do, but... i don't know you. i have no business talking to you," she defended as she packed her binder into her book bag.

"like i said yesterday, you can get to know me, and then we can talk," i gave a grin.

the bell rang, and she stood up from her desk. she slung her backpack over her shoulder.

she stood in front of me, and she peered down at me now. i looked up to meet her eyes, and i swallowed.

"don't bother with it," she held eye contact. "seriously. don't waste your time on me."

my brows furrowed, but she just walked away after. i turned to watch her as she left the classroom, and my shoulders slumped a bit.

i let out a sigh, and i exited the classroom too. i walked down the hall to go to my classroom, but before i could, i was stopped by someone yelling out my name.

"billay! there's my lil' sis."

i turned around, and i grinned as i saw that it was darius.
