i leaned back in my seat, and i rubbed at my temple. i sighed.

i need a break.

despite this, i leaned forward, and i started to work again. i continued to work for another ten or fifteen minutes before my phone started to buzz in my pocket. i pulled it out, and i smiled as i saw that billie was calling.

i'll take my break now.

"hi, my love," i answered as i stepped out of the room to somewhere more private.

"baby," she said. i could tell just from the tone of her voice that she was grinning. "i got it; i got the collab!"

it's been about a year or so. me and billie have settled into the adult, "real world" life pretty smoothly. we both have actual, full-time jobs, unlike the part-time ones we had in high school and college.

we also have a new puppy. her name is snoopy, and she's adorable. we of course also have shark at the apartment, and he's... well, he's shark.

my eyes widened. "you did?! bil, that's amazing! hell yeah," i grinned. "i'm proud of you."

"this is going to be huge," she started to ramble excitedly. i sat down, a permanent smile on my face as i continued to listen to her. "it's gonna be part of their fall line, so i have a few good months to work on it and get it finalized. it's gonna be a lot to do, but i think i can manage it, honestly."

she continued to ramble on about it for probably ten minutes before i heard someone in the background. "okay, i gotta go, junie, but i wanted to tell you real quick that i got it," she murmured.

"i'm proud of you," i told her again. "have you took your lunch break yet?"

when she answered "no," i bit my lip. "good. i'll pick you up in... an hour?" i suggested as i raised a brow, even though i knew she couldn't see me.

"yeah, i'd love that, mama," she spoke softly. "i love you."

"i love you too. i'll see you soon, bil."

"i'll see you," she echoed before the call ended.

roughly an hour later, i'm meeting billie outside of her workplace. i smiled as i saw her, and i walked over to her.

when i reached her, i cupped her face in both of my hands, and i leaned down to press my lips to her's. i kissed her deeply as i held her face in my hands, while her own hands lifted to hold my wrists as she sighed into the kiss. when i pulled away, i smiled at the way her face flushed.

i love that even after all these years, she still gets flustered when i kiss her like that.

she's so precious.

i then started to place kisses across her face, which made her giggle. "i'm so proud of you!" i told her for the third time. "and i'm so happy for you! you deserve this so much, baby."

she scrunched her nose up at me adorably as she placed her hands over mine, where were still holding her face. "thank you, junebug," she murmured. "i couldn't have done it without you."

"bullshit," i immediately argued. "you one-hundred percent could've."

"i wouldn't have even gone to college if it weren't for you," she sent me a look. "give yourself some credit," she teased.

i playfully narrowed my eyes. "okay, but this is about you, so shush! now, what do you say, we go get some food?" i raised a brow as i placed my hand on her lower back to lead her towards my car.
