You could say I was about half an hour away from "home" or maybe even an hour. I had been walking steadily since there was no threat to be seen.
I could see the city from where I was because there was a giant wall separating me and the thing I needed most right now. The cure. I knew it would be wasting valuable time by walking around it and I've never really climbed such vertical heights before.I had one last option..to go under. I remembered there being a sewer entrance under the water surrounding the whole city from a news report I watched once about how the sewers flooded or something, I can't even remember anymore..its been that long since things were normal and everything was okay...
I shake that off, trying my best not to get nostalgic and emotional over it. What's happened has happened and there's nothing I could do to rewind. If only life did have a rewind button..
I prepare myself for the swim of a lifetime, tightening my bag shut so none of my items fall out into the dark abyss they call water.
I dive in, opening my eyes and barely seeing anything through the misty, green sea of dead bodies floating around me. Luckily, being thin enough to fit through the bars, I swim on desperately to get to the air before water completely enveloped my lungs.
Pushing past the dead bodies which contrastingly seeped red aura into the green around me wasn't exactly a pleasant experience. I could see the surface of the water above me at this point. I lunged my arms downwards with force, boosting myself to the top and allowing me to yet again breathe the not-so-fresh polluted air. However nasty the air around me was, I was more than grateful my body had access to it and my lungs could breathe.
