You sat up in the bed, incredibly aware of your surroundings, but it all came crashing down when you locked eyes with the smiling face of Niklaus.
He slowly stood up, coming to walk across the room to sit next to you, "you're finally awake," he admired, rubbing his hand across your skin lightly.
You shook your head in confusion, "what happened?" you asked, "I can't remember anything."
Niklaus lowered his gaze, reliving a painful memory, "you died," he said, barely above a whisper, "I couldn't stand it, it hurt so much, so I fed you my blood." He continued, "when you didn't wake up, I fed you human blood too, hoping to force your body to make the transition. I heard your heartbeat an hour ago, that's when I could finally breathe again."
You hooked a finger under his chin, "thank you, Niklaus, I am finally free of pain."
Niklaus smiled at you and pulled you into an embrace, letting his chin rest on the top of his head. He looked out the small window, seeing the first light of the sun break the horizon.
"Niklaus," you heard a voice from the other side of the door, just before it opened. Elijah stood in the doorway, he stared at you in shock and disbelief. "(Y/N)," he breathed, his voice just above a whisper.
Elijah was pushed out of the way by Ester and Michael, who both stared in shock at you. Then Michael's face turned from shock to rage as he rushed Niklaus, dragging him outside by his shoulder.
Without hesitation you ran outside following them, as did the rest of the family. Michael threw Niklaus down onto the ground in the center of the village. You stepped to help him, but Elijah grabbed your arm, pulling you back, "do not get in father's way, he would turn his rage on you in an instant," Elijah whispered in your ear.
Michael reared back and landed a kick to Niklaus's rib cage, "you deliberately disobeyed us!" he shouted, landing a few hard slaps across Niklaus's face.
You pulled against Elijah's grasp, "we have to try to help him."
Elijah tightened his grasp on you, "do not ask me to watch my father hit you instead."
Finally Ester stepped up, pulling Michael off of Nikaus, "enough Michael, he gets the idea." Michael aimed one last kick at Niklaus before walking away with Ester, "we have to figure out what to do about her," she whispered as they walked back into the house together. The rest of the children followed her, but you and Elijah slowly walked up to Niklaus.
You knelt beside Niklaus, pulling his head into your lap as Elijah knelt next to you. Elijah placed a gentle hand on your back as you stroked Niklaus's hair. "Mother and Father are determining what to do about your immortality," he whispered, "I fear what their solution will be."
Niklaus coughed and sat up, "we should go then, not give them a chance to take it all away."
"You think they would kill me?" you asked both of them.
They both hung their heads, "I fear what father would do in anger," Elijah whispered.
You nodded to both of them with resolve, "then let's go, we really only need each other."
Niklaus turned on his knee, draping an arm across both of your shoulders, "always and forever."
