Luis POV

Val watched me intently as I threw clothes into a book bag. "Go! Go pack a few things. Two weeks worth." She gave me a sad stare. She didn't make a move to go and start packing so I sighed and went over to the doorway where she was standing. "I thought you would be excited to get out for a little while. Even if it is only for two weeks." I placed my hands on her arms. "I am...but why him? Why are we going to live with him?
"Well, he offered." I turned back around thinking about what else I should bring. "Why would we need to live with him in the first place?"

I never told Val exactly why we were going to live with August. I just said that it might be a good change of pace. I didn't want to worry her about us losing the house but after those two weeks with August where would we go? I was told that we had to be out by the end of the month and that happens to be in five days. They didn't give us a lot of time to prepare.

I wasn't going to take August up on the offer considering the fact that is August but when he said both his parents were gone for a month overseas do to the business that they run I made the hard decision. I still have this hatred in me for him but as soon as I though of Val I knew that I had to say yes...for her.

"Wouldn't it be nice it be out of this house for a little while?" I gave her the best fake smile I could muster up. I knew she wasn't gonna buy into it all. "What's wrong? And don't think about lying to me." Her voice was stern and looked exactly like our mother with her "I know you are lying to me" face. "Nothing. Nothing is wrong." I dropped the fake smile but held my voice steady. She took a few steps into the room. Her arms folded over her chest. "Lu, what is wrong?" I shook my head no. "Nothing! Ok?" Yeah she definitely didn't buy that one. "Fine." I gave her an confused look. "That's it? You're done pestering me just like that?"

"I'm gonna find out what's happening wether you are gonna tell me or not." Before she left she pointed a finger at me. "I WILL find out." She swiveled on her heels quickly and walked out of my room leaving me standing there with a half packed bag in-front of me on the floor. I huffed plopping harshly down onto my bed. I should probably go talk to her, right? Just as I got up to try and find her I heard the door open and shut. I peeked out and saw that her shoes and coat were no longer by the door indicating that she did in fact leave. Shit, her shoes. She needs new shoes.

I head back to my room and begin packing the more import things that I want/need to take with me when we leave this house. I pulled out the old tattered shoe box that sat on the top shelf of the closet. It contained anything and everything important to me. Pictures, presents and some of my mothers things. I placed the box on my bed and went to the hallway pulling down the pictures off the walls. One of when Val and I were little another of my mother and father when they were happy and the only good picture I had of my mom.

I placed the all carefully into a box making sure they each had a layer of newspaper between them so the glass of the frames wouldn't crack. Then to the kitchen. My mothers baking dish that she made Thursday night casserole in never failing. The old wooden spoon that had both mine and Val's initials carved into. And lastly the recipe book that sat atop the fridge which hasn't been touched since we moved here. But I couldn't leave it. To many good memories went along with that book. Placed them into another box making sure the breakables were wrapped nicely in newspaper.

I went throughout the small house making sure I had everything that I wanted. Everything that held any sort of significance to me or Val. I know she'd probably hate me for it later but I went to her room and packed some of her things away. I kept out the clothes she wore the most putting them neatly into a duffle bag for living at Augusts. The rest I placed in a box marked Val's Clothes. I left two empty boxes in her room for her to pack away her books and other things knowing she would never leave any of those books behind.

I left back to my room looking once over checking if anything else needed to be packed away. I folded all of my sheets off my bed putting then into a bag. I placed the pillows on top and the small stuffed bear that Val had got me for my birthday a few years ago. I slid my hand under the mattress and pulled out the large orange Manila envelope. It had our important documents such as birth certificates, social security cards, passports that probably don't even work anymore and some extra cash. I slid that down in the box with all of the picture frames and began hauling all of the boxes out to the cars trunk. Every box fit nicely in the back.

Both mine and Val's duffle bags were placed in the back seat along with the blankets, pillows and sheets from our beds knowing that we will be sleeping in this car for a few nights. Maybe weeks...or months. "Are you leaving?!" My father stood there at the front door giving me a death stare. "Yes. You will have to as well. They are taking the house." He scoffed and began walking over towards me. "This is the first I'm hearing about it!" I lowered my head subconsciously my voice becoming meek. "I should have told you, I'm sorry." He seemed to almost growl. "You should be you useless brat." Before I knew it his hand came down hard on my left cheek turning my head the other direction.

"What the hell?!"
