Jewel sat in Susannah's car that afternoon, her knee bouncing anxiously as they pulled up to the country club.
"Just remember to keep your back straight." Susannah reminded her, Jewel climbing out of the car. She was wearing a lavender dress that stopped just before her knees, decorated with small white daisies. Her hands were covered with white gloves that ran over her wrists, making it impossible to use her phone.
"I know. I'm gonna go catch up with Belly." Jewel told Susannah, just wanting to make it through the day in one piece. She turned from Susannah's car, walking toward Belly with speed. Belly smiled as she saw the girl, sticking her arm up for her. Jewel looped hers through, the girls continuing their walk.
"Hey, you look great." Jewel smiled, looking over the light blue dress that perfectly matched her skin tone.
"Thank you, you do too." Belly complimented, Jewel doing a mock curtsy as they laughed.
"Hey, can I ask you something?" Belly asked, a hint of discomfort in her question. Jewel nodded down to her, wondering what could be making her seem nervous.
"Do you like Conrad?" She asked, Jewel's eyebrows furrowing.
"What?" Jewel questioned, feeling as if she misheard Belly's question.
"Like are you two...involved?" She clarified, Jewel quickly shaking her head.
"God, no. Conrad's my best friend. It's never been and never will be nothing more. Besides, he's dating Nicole." She assured the young girl, a slightly deep breath of relief coming from Belly.
"Why do you care?" Jewel asked, knowing Belly would only be asking that if she had some type of feelings for the boy.
"I don't." Belly shrugged, a playfully scoff escaping Jewel's mouth.
"Doesn't sound like you don't." She mumbled, Belly finding her escape from the topic with the sight of Jeremiah. Jewel turned her head as Belly called out for him, watching as he completely overlooked them.
"Jeremiah." Belly laughed, the boy finally getting a good look at the two girls.
"Oh, my God. Uh, hey. Wow. I didn't even recognize you guys." He admitted, something hesitant in his voice.
"Tell me the truth. Um, do I look like a fool?" Belly asked, mainly insecure due to the gloves and fascinator.
"Uh, no, you guys look good." He complimented, eyes scanning over Jewel's dress.
"Um, let me walk you over." He offered, proceeding to change his direction to walk the girls to the room.
"Uh, are those... are those pineapples?" He asked, glancing over the pattern of Belly's dress.
"Pineapples? No, they're flowe...Have you seen flowers before?" Belly questioned, not understanding how his eyes could've confused the two.
"I have, but that is, for sure, a pineapple. That's a nice pineapple dress you got there." He laughed, refusing to believe the obvious fact that they were indeed flowers printed on her dress.
