The girls waded in the water of Hopper's cove, Dara having opted out of the little adventure. She couldn't help but overthink about what Belly had shared with them, wondering if it ever meant as much to Jeremiah as he did to her.
"Hey, Jewel. You alright?" Taylor called out from beside Belly, Jewel forcing a smile as she called out a lazy 'yeah' in response. It didn't take Belly but a millisecond to know that Jewel was lying, her eyebrows furrowed as she swam over to the girl.
"Hey, since when did you lose your virginity?" Belly asked, a slight laugh in her tone.
"Since last night." She admitted, watching as the girl's eyes widened.
"What? Jewel!" She gasped, playfully hitting the girl's shoulder.
"I can't believe you didn't tell me. With who?" She asked, Jewel debating whether or not she should tell Belly the truth. She knew that Belly would know if she was lying, Jewel never having been a great liar to begin with.
"Um...Jeremiah?" She confessed, watching as Belly's smile faded away.
"You're the one he told me about? Jewel, I..." Belly began, Jewel quickly shaking her head in dismissal.
"Don't worry about it. I think I'm gonna head home, but I'll see you guys later." She told them, swimming toward the dock as Belly called out to her.
"Goodnight." Jewel called back, climbing out of the water and quickly grabbing her clothes from the dock. She wanted at least some privacy as she changed back into her clothes, setting them on the ground as she moved behind a tree. She slipped her underwear back on her legs, pulling them up as she heard a twig snap close by. The noise made her jump, quickly turning around to look for a source of the noise. Her eyes widened seeing her clothes missing from beside the tree with just her phone laying on the grass. She took a step forward, just to find Nicole's car missing from the scene as well.
"Shit!" She cursed, quickly grabbing her phone from off the ground. She knew better than to call Laura or Susannah, considering they had been drinking throughout the night. Her eyes rested on Jeremiah's contact, letting out a sigh of frustration as she clicked the call button. He answered fairly quickly for being at a party himself, Jewel pressing the phone to her ear.
"Hey." His voice rang through the phone, Jewel able to hear the small hesitation in his tone.
"I need you to come get me." She told him, looking back to see if Belly and Taylor were still at the dock.
"Okay. What's going on?" He asked, Jewel letting out a huff of disappointment seeing that the two were gone as well.
"They stole my clothes." She answered, leaning her head back against the tree.
"What?" Jeremiah questioned, not sure if he had heard her correctly through all the noise of the party.
"Nicole and her prissy deb ball princesses." She answered, hearing a door open and close on the other end of the phone.
"Where are you right now?" He questioned, Jewel hearing the familiar beeping sound of a car unlocking.
"Hopper's Cove." She told him, running a hand through her still wet hair.
"What the hell are you doing there?" He judged, Jewel quickly growing impatient.
"Can you please just come get me?" She huffed, hearing the noise of the car door closing through the phone.
"Yes, alright. I'll be there soon, just stay there." He directed, hanging up the phone a moment later. Jewel's eyebrows furrowed as she pulled the phone away from her ear, a little surprised that he had hung up on her so abruptly.
