The book party was just as boring as the kids expected it to be, Jeremiah attempting to stack as many books as possible onto Steven's arms while Conrad and Jewel stood in the corner.
"I know it's just a book party for Laura, but I wasn't expecting it to be this boring." She grumbled, jealous Belly had a date to use as an escape.
"That's why I snuck this." Conrad smiled, slipping the bottle of Chardonnay out of his jacket. Jewel smirked at his plan, growing a little more excited as she handed him her glass. She kept look out as he poured her some of the liquid, before handing the glass back to her.
"Just don't be obvious." He reminded her, not wanting to get lectured later on by Susannah and Laura.
"I can be stealthy." She shrugged nonchalantly, taking a sip of the alcohol. She drank the liquid, holding back from making a wrenched face. He raised his eyebrows at her antics, trying some of the alcohol himself.
"Stealthy, huh?" He questioned, hoping nobody had seen the girl's reaction.
"That's very dry...wow." She muttered out, forcing herself to swallow the remaining drops in her glass.
"Yeah, not my favorite either." Conrad agreed, pouring both of them another glass.
"Conrad! Come over here." Laura called out, both teens looking at each other questionably. Conrad handed her the bottle, setting his glass down on the wooden railing before heading down to her. Jewel ventured over to the couch, bottle in hand, meeting with Steven and Jeremiah while Conrad talked with Laura and another man.
"Where did you get that?" Jeremiah asked Jewel, sitting up and pointing to the bottle clenched in her hand.
"Conrad and I found it." She answered, watching as Jeremiah's eyes flicked to Conrad's direction for a moment.
"You shouldn't be drinking here." He scolded, his jealousy making his tone more harsh than he meant it to be. He took the bottle from her hand, setting it on the table beside the couch.
"Alright, dad. Jeez." She grumbled, throwing herself onto the couch in boredom. She crossed her arms over her chest, staring at the people involved in separate conversations.
"I've never been more jealous of Belly than right now." Steven groaned, looking toward the pair. Both nodded in reply, tired of being surrounded by stacks of books and business-casual dressed adults. Conrad threw himself down onto the couch a moment later, a groan escaping his lips.
"You know, this shit is so boring. Can we go somewhere?" He asked, a soft chuckle leaving Jeremiah.
"Yeah. Where?" Steven asked, looking down at his phone.
"We could go into town, I don't know, buy some weed from that guy with the Rainbow Dash tattoo?" Jeremiah suggested, Jewel shaking her head in response.
"Nah, he got arrested last summer." Conrad informed him, a sigh leaving Jeremiah.
"Oh, shit. Really?"  He asked, Steven nodding in confirmation.
"We could go to the drive-in." Steven suggested, Jeremiah and Jewel shaking their heads in denial.
"Dude, gross. No, I don't want to watch Belly hooking up with some kid in the back seat of a minivan." He shut down, a small laugh coming from Steven.
"Yo, actually... let's go to the drive-in." Conrad agreed, Steven's eyes peeking up at him.
"Wait. Like... like, really?" He asked, Conrad shrugging in response.
"Yeah. Why not?" Conrad answered, a laughing escaping Steven's mouth.
"You're driving." Conrad told him, lifting himself from the couch.
"Oh, yes. Guys... Get up. Come on." Steven told Jeremiah and Jewel, laughing as he got up to catch up with Conrad.
"Guys, stop seriously. It's her first date, leave her be." Jewel retaliated, trying to stop the boys from crashing Jewel's date with Cam.
"Whatever, we're going. You can stay with the book-nerds if you want." Steven told her, the boys excitedly heading out to the car. Jewel stood in front of the couch, conflicted with her options.
"Come on." Jeremiah scolded, slipping his hand into hers and guiding them toward the boys.
