Ten Years Later...

"Daddy, daddy, daddy!"

I turn to see our 4 year old little girl running full force at me.

She jumps into my open arms.

"What's all the fuss about Princess?"

"Alex hit Connor."

"Why did he do that?"

"Because Connor said that I was a big baby and pushed me off the swing."

I was actually proud of our boy. That Connor was was snot nose little shit anyways. At least until I saw Dez coming around the corner with our son.

I knew that look on her face, she was not happy.

"Tell your father's what you did Alex." she said with her hands on her hips.

"It wasn't my fault. He pushed Care out of the swing and made her cry."

"Yeah Mom, he was messing with our little sister. We had to protect her." our second son Dylan chimed in.

"Are you two going to do or say anything? They busted the poor kids nose."

I look to Seth who is trying not to laugh.

"What exactly do you want us to say Darlin? They were standing up for Care. They were doing their job as big brothers. Besides, that kid's a punk. Who messes with a sweet girl like our Princess?"

She throws her hands up in the air, "Ugh, I give up. They are going to grow up to be Neanderthals and it will be on you two."

Seth reaches around to grab her quickly, "Hey, they're just boys protecting what is theirs. Just like we would. Just like Roman would. Cut them some slack, okay?" He kisses her softly on the forehead before letting her go.

"I know, I just worry."

"They are going to be fine. We are going to be fine. Now lets get going before your family eats everything."

I look around at my family as weird as it is and am so happy. I never thought I wanted this. Until I saw her. Until I loved her and she loved me back.

I let Caroline down and smiled as she ran straight to her brothers. I was terrified when we found out we were having a girl.

I knew how I was growing up. The thought of some little shit hurting my girl brought out a rage I didn't even know was possible.

Our boys were different. As soon as they found out they were having a sister they got excited. They told everybody that they were having a sister and she was theirs. Nobody was allowed to touch Care once she was born without the boys giving them a serious stare down. Even Roman was unnerved by their constant staring until he handed her over.

And don't get me started on how many nights we would go into her nursery to find them camped out in front of her crib. She had them wrapped around her finger before she could walk and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I wrapped my arm around my wife as we walked towards her family. I stopped and pulled her towards me.

"Have I told you how thankful I am for everything you've given us. Given me?"

She smiles and leans on her tiptoes and kisses me. "You've given me just as much."

The End
