———————Being a cop's significant other was not easy.
Especially when that cop was Travis Hackett, now a sheriff in North Kill, New York.
I never liked the things he had to do. Not to mention his family was insufferable.
They never cared much for me, thank goodness, but they always harped on him. No matter what he did, it wasn't good enough.
For goodness sake, he was doing all their dirty work and no "thank you's" were ever given to him.
It was sweet, however, to see him care for his niece and nephew, Kaylee and Caleb. Those two were such polar opposites and yet Travis knew them both by heart.
He did so much for them. So much for that entire family. And yet— I can't help but feel guilt eat at my heart for him.
—————I arrived to the station, bags of groceries in hand. I knew Travis was gonna need all he could get after last night.
He spent his whole night chasing down that damn white wolf, so I might as well provide him with any aid he may need.
"Honey?" I called out, setting the bags down on the table in front of me.
Damn. This place needs to be cleaned up. BADLY.
I decided not to pull anything out of the bags and instead search for Travis. After all, he could need some assistance.
"Travis?" I called out again, getting antsy, "man, where the hell is he?"
I looked around some more before hearing something I never thought I would hear.
A howl.
I quickly made my way towards the cells where I heard the awful noise.
There's.. there's no way..
I never doubted Travis's skills. Never. I knew he could get through any he put his mind to.
However, I also knew about his.. frustration.
As I've said before, being in his family is hard work. With him being the only sheriff in North Kill, all the responsibility fell onto him. The work had just gotten harder especially after the "Harum Scarum" incident 6 years ago.
It was hard to help him in those moments. Every full moon was filled with despair after he came home only to tell me he failed.
It's started to get so bad that it's pulling me into that same spiral. Hopelessness. Agony.
And I can't help him.
"Travis?" I finally made it to the cells eager to find him and embrace him.
But what I was met with was not what I expected.
"What the.. hell?" My mouth dropped in shock. What the...
"Dammit," Travis ran his hand through his hair, a frown displayed on his face, "I can explain this—"
