Rachel Sloan abruptly woke up to the blaring sound of her alarm, she brought her arm over to her nightstand and smacked the alarm clock until it stopped. Her first day of work started this morning; specifically as a surgical intern. Rachel had been dreaming of this day since she was only eight years old, when her brother went off to Medical School. The girl had always been competitive, so when she learned where he was going, she made it her life long dream to one up him. Although, with their age difference being twelve years apart, he was sort of winning.Today was the day her life officially started; the woman had decided. She wasn't one to dwell on the past; well that's actually a lie, she definitely did, but she had a knack for blocking things out, and pretending her problems didn't exist. She had left everything behind her for the whole of medical school, putting her all into her studies.
Rachel graduated at the top of her class at Harvard Medical School, earning herself both an M.D. and P.H.D. To say she was proud of herself would be an understatement, she worked her ass off for it and in the end she was rewarded greatly. She was accepted into a ton of prestigious surgical programs all over the country, but in the end she chose; Seattle Grace, located in Seattle, Washington. One of the reasons she decided on this program was because it was the farthest away from New York.
Her apartment was only a few blocks away from the hospital; which was purposeful, so she would get there fast if she was ever called in. Knowing she was going to be changing into scrubs the women just threw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Then she went to the kitchen and made herself a much needed cup of coffee. After she had finished her coffee, she brushed her teeth quickly, then left for work.
Walking in the doors of Seattle Grace, brought a smile to Rachel's face, as she watched as her fellow interns were being gathered before the door of one of the hospital's operating rooms. So, she quickly headed over to the group, with confidence. She saw the Chief of Surgery; Richard Webber, standing in front of the door, he cleared his throat, getting ready for a big speech.
"Each of you comes here today hopeful, wanting in on the game." The man spoke, from behind Rachel she heard a door open, turning she saw a dirty blonde haired woman, who looked to be an intern as well, though she was late unlike the rest of them. "A month ago you were in med school being taught by doctors..."
As the late woman joined the group, Rachel leaned over towards her and whispered, "Don't worry, he just started. You didn't miss much." Shocked, the other woman looked over at her, relieved, "Thanks." She whispered back, the two sharing a smile.
"...Today, you are the doctors." The Chief said, while opening up the door and flicking on the lights, the interns eagerly piled into the room, excited looks on each of their faces. "The seven years you spend as a surgical resident will be the best and worst of your life. You will be pushed to the breaking point."
