Sitting by the window sill in silence. In the early hours when the sky was dusted a palette of cotton and feather blue. Dawn in all her prime and glory, freezing airborne crystals in still serenity.
Feel the seconds condense into minutes into hours until all you could feel was the crisp cold numbing your senses. A rarity when thoughts were for once placid, allowing you to be lulled into a waking rest.
Until... the silence was shattered by a distant yelp. Small and almost imperceptible, but a crystal clear contrast.
From outside your apartment window, to another building across the street, the frantic movement of hands directed your eyes upwards. A boy stood shivering on his balcony wearing the most endearing look of befuddlement. His arms sliced the air in knife-like strokes. It almost made you laugh, but it didn't yet hit you until another squeal reached your ears that there was something he was trying to catch in those open palms.
Not until you looked back down at your frosted window panes and let out a gasp of your own. Because in those moments of shattered silence came the sighting of the first snow.
He spotted the first snowfall of the newly dawning winter, and he let the whole neighbourhood know.
