The Truth Hurts

It had been a day like any other, a mission like any other- almost, at least. For once I got to go out on a reconnaissance mission with the one and only Obi-Wan Kenobi. I looked up to the man- he was confident but with reason, pompous but not rude, serious but not a buzzkill.

We had been separated from Cody and his team, who were acting as a sort of backup or damage control. In the depths of a mechanical planet that served as nothing but a place of construction and destruction, we found ourselves stuck. We were meant to find out if it was a place that aided the Separatists and the building of their many droids. We soon came to find there were no Separatists or droids, only death.

"What could have happened here?" I asked, grimacing upon seeing another body sprawled out and broken, noticing they all shared stab and slice wounds that had been cauterized upon contact. I frowned upon taking a closer look at the wounds. "It's got to be a lightsaber. That's the only thing I can think of being the cause of these wounds." Obi-Wan pursed his lips, uneasy. "Whatever it is, it isn't good. We need to find a way out so we can assure reinforcements." A chill ran itself down my back, to which I rubbed my arms uncomfortably. "We're on the same page, then-" I froze as the shiver kept hold on my back, pricking it with pins and needles, making the hair on the back of my neck stand on their ends. "What is it?" Obi-Wan asked, noticing my change in stance and the terrified expression on my face. I have always been more sensitive to certain presences.

"Kenobi..." A gravelly voice drawled, red light illuminating a man as he rounded the corner. He looked like a demon with mechanical legs, and instantly I recognized him. "Darth Maul." I hadn't known the man, but I knew the stories. So instantly I backed away, but did not run. I knew better than to turn my back on him.

"Who would have thought I would have found you here, Maul." Kenobi responded, less phased than me, but on edge nonetheless. Darth Maul maintained a scowl that showed off his yellow teeth, his ominous eyes flickering over to me. "My, who's this?" He questioned, eyes widening for a moment before narrowing again, a frightening smile growing on his face. "I know you, but from where..? Your... face. I remember it..." His eyes narrowed, flickering between me and Kenobi. "Ah... I see now." He smiled mischievously, and I frowned, frightened- how could I not? I hadn't even been near Darth Maul before that moment. I only knew him from horror stories and holograms. "Do I know you?" I returned to which he chuckled, still grinning. "Not yet. I suppose he would try to prevent that."

I followed Maul's gaze to Obi-Wan, only growing more confused. He seemed to notice as the two of us exchanged glances. "You don't know?" Maul exclaimed, surprised, watching both me and Kenobi, brows only raising more upon a certain realization. "Neither of you know?! And it's right in front of you?!" He yelled, frustrated at our lack of understanding. His golden eyes bore into mine, drinking in my fear with a malicious chuckle. "This will be fun." He was in front of me in the blink of an eye, and I had no time to free my saber from my sash before he was bringing his own saber down on me. A yell escaped me, but in the nick of time Kenobi put himself in front of me, saber high in the sky and blocking Maul's blow. "Awfully protective, are we?" Maul chuckled lowly. Kebobi grit his teeth, brows knitted in concentration as he parried the blow, picking me up and sending me away with a Force push. I scrambled to my feet immediately concerned. "Master-!?"

"GO!" He shouted back at me, deflecting another one of Maul's strikes, the horned man letting out another yell. As antsy as I was to help, I knew better than to rush in without a plan. So, against every moral I had, I went with my nerves and fears and ran faster than I ever had before. The Force propelled every step I took, boots thumping against the metallic floor heavily, sending me down the halls quicker and quicker with every stride. I jumped up, bracing against the wall directly in front of me, using it to propel myself around the corner and down the next hall. I pressed on my commlink. "Cody?!" I yelled, and still only got static. "Dank farrik!" I cursed, stopping at an intersection. I wanted to keep running, but there was no telling whether or not I'd actually be able to find my way out, or even get reinforcements after that. My gut told me to turn back to help Kenobi.
