Because of the odd numbers I have to sleep in the same bed as someone and Tris offered but Four wouldn't let me the jerk. So, the only other person that was okay with it was Peter. They didn't have much of a choice about opposite genders so they approved. I jolt awake to Four banging a metal pipe against a railing. Ow, my head. Peter perks up beside me and slowly sits up. I stay where I am trying to calm the ringing in my ears down. "I want everyone in the Pit. Two minutes." He orders and walks out. Peter stretches and gently shakes my shoulder.

"Jay? Hey, we gotta get up." He whispers, quietly once everyone had begun leaving. "I can't, my head is killing." I wince. He massages my head and plays with my hair. I was already half awake when he hit the railing so it really scared me. "You're okay. C'mon, let's get you up." He helps me stand and pulls my jacket over my head for me. He takes my hand and leads me to the Pit.

"There are two stages of training. The first is physical. Push your bodies to the breaking point and you'll master the methods of combat. The second is mental. Again, breaking point. You'll face your worst fears and conquer them, unless they get you first. You'll be trained separately from the Dauntless-born, but you'll be ranked together. Jaydan is the only exception as she will be training with you. Don't worry. She'll go easy." He smirks. Eyes land on me and I hate it. "After initiations, ranking will determine what jobs you move into. Leadership, guarding the fence, or keeping the factionless from killing each other." He looks at Tris.

"The rankings will also determine who gets cut." Eric butts in as he looks over us, dauntingly. "Cut?" Chris asks. "At the end of each stage of training, the lowest-ranking initiates will be leaving us." He stands up and walks over. "To do what?" Al asks. Oh, you poor soul. You haven't figured it out yet, have you? "There's no going home to your families so you'd live factionless." He states plainly. "Why didn't we know that?" Will asks. "It's a new rule." Eric states again. "A new rule? Somebody should've told us that." Christina worries. "Why? Would you have chosen differently?" Eric asks her. "Out of fear?" He continues. "I mean, if that's the case, you might as well get out now. If you're really one of us, it won't matter to you that you might fail." He presses. "Now, you chose us. Now we get to choose you." He finalises.

I just jab at the punching bag as I am focused on something else. Peter walks over. "Your middle is tight. Relax." He leans on the wall next to me. "Hm? Yeah, I got it." I mumble. "Something up?" He asks. "The sky is a good start." I glance at him. He holds my waist. "Really, Jaydan. What's wrong?" He looks into my eyes. "I'm just tired. I'm worried about getting dropped out. I'm definitely not worthy of it compared to all the other Daunt-born. Or you guys." I point at the transfers before resting my middle and index finger against Peter's chest. "Hey. You're better than most I've seen." He reassures me and leans down into my eye line. "Peter..." I sigh. He smiles gently and pulls my head into his chest.

He's hugging me? Um, okay. He wraps his arms around my waist and holds tightly. I wrap mine around his neck. "You're so sure of yourself, Peter. I can't do that." I hide my face in his chest. "You can and will, did you see yourself in that live stream? You beat Dauntless ADULTS. Jaydan you could beat Molly and she gives ME a run for my height." He chuckles. The rumble makes my face warm with the feeling. "C'mon. Let me help you." Peter let's go but takes my hands, he goes behind me and presses my body into his. The contact spreads heat across my cheeks. "Hands in front of face." He helps me, lazily. "Peter, I know hand-to-hand combat I don't need-"
