It wasn't long until the group caught up with Eddie and y/n. This time they were joined by Lucas and Max.  Y/n knew max from their relationship with Billy, and did have a pretty strong friendship with her.

Y/n's heart stopped for a moment when they saw them. "Max? What.. what are you doing here? Oh my god. Are you... are you okay?". They stayed sat, not sure what maxs reaction would be.

But Max didn't even hesitate, and immediately went over to y/n and wrap her arms around them.

"Am I okay? Are YOU okay?! I didn't even know you moved here!"

Tears of relief started pooling in y/n's eyes. Max was always the sweetest girl. And clearly that hadn't changed.

"Yeah, I'm okay. Well, getting there. Apart from this busted ankle."

Max leant down and took a look, before rummaging in her backpack and pulling out some thick bandages. "It doesn't look broken, just bruised. This should help the pain a little bit." She then began wrapping's the bandages around y/n's ankle tightly, causing them to wince with pain. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be, how do you know this stuff?"

"Skateboards are death traps. I've had plenty of sprains and bruises. Always gotta be prepared." She said waving the bandages. " there. All done."

Y/n looked up and smiled. "Thanks maxie."

Max was about to speak when an extremely loud voice erupted behind her.

"BOOM!"

Everyone quickly looked toward the voice, and of course it was Dustin.

"Bada, bada, boom."

The group began having a very in depth discussion about faulty compasses, magnetic fields and gates to another dimension. But along with it came a heartbreaking revelation.

"... and I'm hoping it is, because then we have a way to Vecna. And a shot at freeing max from this curse."

Y/n's heart stopped for a second. They looked up at Max. "What... what curse?!"

Max sighed softly. "The thing that killed Billy. He's after me too."

Y/n felt their heart shatter at those words. Max was like a little sister to them, the thought of her ending up the same way as Billy just wasn't something they could comprehend. "Oh Max."

Before anything else could be said by y/n Steve chimes in. "Yeah guys, this is all great in theory. But Eddie is still a wanted man! We can't just go for a hike through the woods."

Dustin rolls his eyes. "BUT... if my plan works, we have a real chance of saving both Max AND Eddie."

"I really can't believe I'm saying this, but I like the sound of Dustins plan..." to which Dustin gave one of his cocky 'I told you so' smiles before turning to Eddie.

"What say you, Eddie the Banished?"

"I say that you're asking me to follow you into Mordor. Which if I'm straight with you, I think is a really BAD idea... but the shire, the shire is burning. So Mordor it is."

Just as everyone is getting ready to leave, Max interjects with something that nobody had thought about.

"Okay... guys? Who's gonna stay here with y/n?"

Y/n's eyes shoot toward Max. "Stay with me? You're joking right? I'm coming with you."

"Not with that ankle you're not. You need to stay off it, you're not walking anywhere."

She was right. There was no way they could walk without holding everyone back. Just as they were about to admit defeat, their long haired hero speaks up to save the day.

"They don't have to walk" he smiled, turning to y/n. "Piggy back?"

A/n. Short chapter I'm sorry, next one will be longer and more interesting. It just makes more sense for the next few parts to be their own chapter 🫶🏻
