"Tess, can you and James come over? I know the kids are home but can you have Lyric watch her sibs for me, it's a friend emergency...Thank you. Tell her I owe her cash for this... OH have Skyler wear some basketball shorts and a tee shirt with a hoodie and cap to cover his face... Yes, it involves Alex.... no I'm not telling you right now. Yes, he is here. Okay, love you bye."
She hung up the phone and looked back at Alex. Who had a big dumb grin from ear to ear but he was also very confused looking.
"Um, Tessa's husband. He is the same build as you. I figured we could..."
"Pull a switch. Have him and Tessa go and lead the leeches away?" He asked impressed with her idea.
"Yes, is that okay?"
"That's brilliant!" He grabbed her up in a big hug and spun her around before putting her back on the ground their eyes locked instantly, then both of them looked at each other's lips. The adrenaline surging in their veins makes other emotions from earlier come to the surface. "Do we have time for..." he asked as he motioned his head towards the bedroom.
"No." She said firmly and turned away from him. She picked up her sweet doggie who was barking at the window because the photographers were all around outside.
"Okay, but you're missing out." He said with a wink at her and he turned and sat on a chair at her dining room table and let out a haggard breath and ran his hand through his hair.
This might be harder than I thought.
They both sat in silence and read on their phones. He was texting Michelle the plan and she agreed it was a good option. She wondered if they should hire a decoy when he is in Oklahoma altogether. He didn't want to but he may need it if he wanted to keep Emmalynn out of the spotlight. Remembering how that played out before...
"Oh, Alexander, Who is your friend?" asked a random press affiliate at the opening event for his first show.
"I'd like to introduce my longtime girlfriend and history buff Emmalynn" He beamed with pride as he showed her off to all the photographers. She stood next to him in a stunning blue gown that matched his eyes. He had a wonderfully deep black tailored suit that the studio paid for. He had bought her gown after getting suggestions from the costume ladies on the show. It was perfect. They looked like a real Hollywood couple.
But Emmalynn felt so out of place. She had been great at events at their university and the museum but this was different. This was a huge judging contest and she had to help Alex look great so he could win. His career depended on it. She didn't like all the pressure.
His publicist had read her the riot act the day before. Alex had no idea of course because he would have never allowed it. His agent also said something to her and she had known him since Alex and she began dating.
"Now Emmalynn I know you love Alexander right, and you want him to do well in this industry right?"
"Yes Martin, You know I do."
"Don't get huffy I just need you to step up your game tomorrow night at the event. Don't show your small-town girl attitude but your southern bell charm alright."
"Okay, Martin I won't mess this up for him. I promise."
Standing there on the carpet holding onto his arm for dear life. She felt like she might pass out from the anxiety but she had her best smile plastered on her face her whole being was shaking violently on the inside and her fears were rearing their ugly head. Especially when one of the reporters said:
