Hello everyone, I hope you will enjoy this imagine with Matteo Berrettini. So sad he couldn't play at Wimbledon because his covid test was positive. It's what inspired me to do this imagine. I truly believed he had a high chance of winning this year! Daniil Medvedev will be next. 

All you could do is stare at your scream when the news reached you. How were you supposed to go on as if nothing had happened? You immediately dialed his phone number – it only took seconds for him to answer. ''We're screwed,'' is the first thing he said.

You sighed deeply and grabbed your agenda. ''We so are,'' you replied. You could hear him giggle on the other side of the line. It made you smile a bit too, but it wasn't funny at all. ''That's what you get for sleeping with the enemy!'' he said while bursting out in laughter. ''Or your test is going to turn out negative, then we're not'' he quickly added. ''Should I like, just go, and play my match against Emma? It's not like I've been in your presence for hours the past few days,'' you tried to somehow make it seem better for yourself.

''We've kissed several times. You really think you've dodged a bullet here?'' Matteo replied. You sighed deeply as you let yourself fall onto the bed. ''Can we at least quarantine together if I were to turn out positive?'' you said as you texted your manager Toni whilst putting Matteo on speaker. You could just feel Matteo smiling through the phone.

''I mean if you want us to be leaked out and a thing, sure come over! Just hop into the cab and make out with me all night,'' he jokingly said. ''Well, how else are we going to play off us both being tested positive then? Wouldn't they connect the dots either way?'' you replied whilst you got a text back from Toni. He was on his way to get you a test.

''Maybe if they were smart but you are going to be able to tell a different story there. I know for a fact that Serena is positive too. You could just blame it on having practiced with her a couple of days ago,'' Matteo said. You smiled, you loved how he'd put your desires and wishes above his. If it weren't for you, you two would be out in the open already. You knew that Matteo just wanted to tell the world about the two of you dating and practically shout it on top of the roofs, but you weren't ready yet.

Two years ago, you had met Matteo on the WTA players tour where he happened to be to support Iga. You had obviously met him through Iga and the two of you hit it off so good that when Iga got injured and therefore had to withdraw from the tournament, he stayed to support you instead. You secretly began hanging out with him but lost touch with him when he rekindled things with his ex a few weeks later.

It took you a while to get over him. You had never experienced the connection you had with Matteo in a guy ever before. So quickly, so natural, and so intense. Him going back to his ex, made you rethink if the connection you shared with him was ever true to begin with, but you couldn't ignore the feelings you had been feeling for yourself. At least to you, it was the most real thing you had felt in years. 

But you tried and fought your hardest to ignore your heartbreak and a few weeks later you convinced yourself that you were glad that you got to focus on your career again and it paid off. One year later you dominated the charts as number two in the world. Exactly one year later – literally exactly one year later, Matteo called you with the news that he and Alja broke up and that he couldn't forget you. He wanted to see if the initial spark you two shared, was still there. Because in his opinion he had never clicked with someone so fast and so intense ever before.

Although you shared the same thought as Matteo back then, you couldn't give him the chance he needed. You declined him saying that you weren't a second choice and moved on. Until three months ago when you crossed paths with him again in the Laver Cup and got paired up with him in the mixed doubles. It felt like old times and you two ending up winning made the spark even feel better and stronger.
