Summary: Set in 1x19 "An Unblinking Death." After the cure gets shoved down her throat, she goes to New Orleans to the Bayou, in hopes of getting protection from her enemies. She's unaware that she's arriving at a bad time, and gets injured from the explosions in the Bayou. Can Elijah get Rebekah to save her? Can she save her? If Kat survives, will Elijah agree to protect her?
It was a nebulous night, as a human Kat walked through the Bayou of New Orleans. She'd been through hell trying to be human and evade any enemies. She'd gotten injured from one on the way to the Bayou, but had been able to kill it. She was here looking for Elijah. Despite him leaving her for his family, yet again, she knew he'd always come to her rescue.
As she entered the Crescent wolf camp, she looked around for her favorite Original. She had assumed him to be here protecting Hayley. She didn't see her though, as she looked around. She just saw Elijah.
Elijah was still in the Bayou with the wolves, needing to make sure they were safe. There'd already been a few explosions this afternoon.
Suddenly, he caught sight of what appeared to be a human Katerina, when he looked in the direction of the smell of fresh blood. He could only assume what would make her human. The cure, which had vanished after he'd give it to what he'd thought had been Rebekah, but had instead, been Silas. If she was human, that meant someone had shoved it down her throat.
Katerina? he thought.
He was about to blur over to her, when more explosions went off. Then everything went black for him.
Kat's injuries were starting to get the best of her, she knew, when her vision started to blur. She also started to feel light-headed from the blood loss. Then, there were sudden explosions, and she felt herself get hit, right before she hit the ground. Then she lay there, pain surging through her, before everything began to go black.
When he woke up after what felt like half an hour or so, he saw the destruction.
As his ears healed, he looked for his ex. He was sure she'd come here for his help. Even if she hadn't, he'd always save her when she needed it.
"Katerina!" he called over the chaos, but he couldn't hear her, which concerned him considerably. "Katerina!" He called once more, as he began to get to his feet.
Jackson, apparently knowing who Elijah was referring to, came over, pointing in the direction he'd seen her, unable to help her when he needed to help his pack.
"Over there!" he told him over the chaos.
Elijah followed the direction he'd given him, which soon led him to where she was.
He blurred towards where she lay on her back, injured from earlier and the explosions. He could see blood on either side of her head, a few minor wounds, an open thigh artery, and two bleeding sides. He didn't know how long he'd been out, but she'd clearly lost a lot of blood. She pale from blood loss.
He rested a hand on the side of her face.
"Katerina, can you hear me? I need you to open your eyes," he called to her, forcing himself to stay calm.
After about five minutes of no response or movement, he slid a hand under her, arm supporting her head, gently pulling her close. He then slid his other hand under her legs, before getting to his feet with her. Despite her injuries, he wasn't willing to take a chance if she couldn't digest blood, if the cure was in her. His only chance was Rebekah, since there wasn't a working hospital thanks to Mikael.
Once he got home, he blurred to his room, laying her gently down on the bed. He then sat on her bedside and applied pressure with a hand to her open artery, trying to keep her from bleeding out further from the artery. He didn't know much, but he knew an open artery could kill a human.
"Rebekah!" he called, as he continued applying pressure.
When she appeared at the threshold to the room, she hadn't exactlyexpected Katherine in town. She also hadn't expected her injured. After all,Katherine, according to what she'd always heard from the world, could take careof herself. Her being injured though, meant that she was human, which she knewmeant that someone had to have shoved the cure down her throat. She wasn'thappy about that, because she'd been wanting it for herself, but she was prettysure it was against Katherine's will. As far as she knew, Katherine had likedbeing a vampire, and hadn't wanted to ever be human again. That meant that shemust have done someone wrong, so she must've gone here for her elder brother's protection. But it was in the middle of chaos because of everything that had beenhappening.
After a few minutes, Rebekah went into action to help him try and save Katherine.
When she woke up, Kat found herself in Elijah's room in his bed, him seated on her bedside, obviously having been waiting for her to wake up.
"Katerina," he greeted.
She slowly sat up in bed, since it appeared that she'd been patched up. She assumed by Rebekah, since she knew it wasn't yet time for Freya to be waking up yet for Freya to even remotely be able to heal her.
"Elijah," she greeted back to him.
"What are you doing here, Katerina?" he inquired of her.
"I guess I came at the wrong time, but I figured you wouldn't answer if I called, so I came in person to ask for your protection. Now that Elena shoved the cure down my throat, I need protection from my enemies. If they find out that I'm human, they'll be looking for me."
He rested a hand on hers that was on the bed.
"You know, I'll always protect you, Katerina."
She gave a smile at that, thankful that he was still willing to protect her, even after everything that had happened between them recently.
