Summary: Set in 5x13. When Elijah wakes up in the prison world, and when he finds Kat nearly dead because of Kai, can he saved her, or is he too late? What will happen?

It was a dismal night, as she lay in one of the clinic rooms, which was a complete disaster. She'd ended up here she didn't know how long ago, but she'd been having to deal with Kai ever since they'd killed demoness her. She'd been able to keep from getting hurt by him for a long while, but things had just gotten worse. Now, she was there, injured, nobody in this prison world to save her life. She didn't know where Kai was currently, but she imagined looking for another way to get out of this prison world. She wasn't going to escape with him, nor be used by him, which was what had gotten her injured in the first place. Because of her injuries, she hadn't had the time to be able to get herself taken care of. She was pretty sure if he did come back here, she'd be a goner by then. She was weak from blood loss and her injuries, and everything was turning black. She didn't have to use her now active Traveler magic to know that she was very close to dying. She just hoped that this time, when she died, she'd end up somewhere more peaceful. Maybe be reunited with Nadia. She could only hope.

Elijah had just died alongside Klaus, having been too grief-stricken over Hayley's death and his own blame, plus Hope's blame on him, to live another century. Especially, since all these centuries, his purpose had been mostly Klaus. Without him, he didn't feel he had a purpose anymore. The rest of their family would be okay. They had each other, and Hope would have the best teachers that she could have given what she was. He wasn't exactly concerned for her. When he awoke though, he was on a floor, which was somewhere he didn't expect to be, surrounded by what looked like a hospital room, things scattered everywhere. A few things were broken, too.

Suddenly, a familiar scent came to him. The smell of a lot of human blood. Then something else. He could barely hear a heart, which was confusing for a moment to him, the scent accompanied by someone that he'd always love, even as he loved Hayley. Then he turned around to see her. In the midst of the disaster of the room, she lay on her back, injured. Despite what had happened between them years ago, and despite not knowing how she was even human, even though he assumed how, he blurred towards her.

He slid an arm under her, once he'd knelt by her, crook of his arm supporting her head. Although he couldn't hear her breathing, he hoped he wasn't too late. Hayley's death had been enough for him to want to join her, but Katerina would always be someone he loved the most. He couldn't lose her.

"Katerina," he stated, as he gently pulled her into his arms. Then, crook of arm still supporting her head, he gently positioned her head back, before biting his wrist. He then put it to her lips, making his blood go down her throat. "Come on, Katerina," he pleaded, acting calm, even though he inwardly didn't feel it. "Come back, Katerina."

After a few minutes or so, her wounds finally healed. He also heard her breathing, which was a relief to him. He couldn't bare it if he lost her. He hadn't wanted anything to ever happen to her, but it seemed as though it had, considering she was here in what he could assume was a prison world. He didn't know how long she'd been here, but if he came across the person that had nearly killed her, he'd kill said person. He wasn't going to let someone live that had hurt or tried to kill her. Nobody did either of those things, and lived to tell it.

When she slowly awoke, she saw that Elijah was there, she was healed, she was in his arms, and she was still in the prison world. She knew what that had to mean, but in her state, healed or not, she didn't exactly care how he was here. Just that he was here, since she had someone here with her now. Someone that would and could protect her against Kai. Especially, in the weakened state she was currently in from all the blood loss she'd received.

She slowly sat up with his help.

"Elijah," she greeted him. Despite him leaving, yet again, all those years ago, she was glad for his presence. She was as alive as she could be in this prison world because of him. Plus, she knew he'd protect her no matter what. He wouldn't just stand there and let something happen to her.

"What happened, Katerina?" he inquired, a hand on the side of her face.

"A psycho Gemini witch. Kai," she told him. "As for how I'm human, well, that's a long story. One we might not have time for me to tell. We need to try and find a way out of here. Before he comes back to see if I'm still alive. I wouldn't work with him to get out, and it made him angry at me for that."

"Let's find a way out of here, then," he agree with her.

About a few days later, he'd been able to track down and kill Kai in the prison world. Then they got the ascendant working, so they were able to escape the prison world. Then she was taken care of. And with Klaus gone, they reconnected, getting back together again, and left New Orleans together.
