It was a beautiful day in England, as Katerina Petrova and Elijah Mikaelson played chase.
She stopped running and laughed, as she said, "You're meant to catch me."
"Well, If I catch you, then the game will be over," he replied, having also stopped playing chase with her.
They sat down on a bench and she suddenly looked at him, as she asked him, "True love isn't real unless it is returned, do you agree?"
He lied, saying, "I do not believe in love, Katerina." He knew he shouldn't let his feelings get the better of him, even if he didn't want her to die so Klaus could become a hybrid. There was no other way though.
"That is too sad for me to believe, my Lord. If we cease to believe in love, then why would we want to live?" she replied, not believing that he didn't believe in love.
The night of the full moon, she found out what Klaus was going to do to her and what they were, so she took the Moonstone and ran for her life. Though Elijah cared for her, he helped search for her. He didn't want her to die, but he also was loyal to his brother. He knew if he didn't find her for Klaus, he'd end up with a dagger in his chest and probably in a box for a century or two.
"Katerina!" He called to her. "It's pointless to run! Klaus will find you wherever you are!" He then said, "I know you are near. I can smell your blood."
That night, he never found her, because she had help in escaping and because in the end, she turned herself into a vampire after Rose had healed her with her blood, thinking that she would be rid of him if she died. She didn't expect to become a vampire though, but when she did, she took the chance and fled, only to find one night, her entire village slaughtered. She knew only one monster that would do that, but she hadn't expected him to lash out by killing her villagers and family. After weeping over her mother, she fled so that he wouldn't find her.
