Noah and Mary stands up, they're smiling to Jack but the smile fade when they saw me. Liam stand up too, but he glares at me. I didn't smile or made a face back to him.
As we stand in the middle of the priest, Jack had skip the part where we both need to declare 'I do' and just went to put a ring on my finger. I did the same and the priest finally said "I now pronounce you as husband and wife." the priest close his book.
It was so quick and soon the three children came to our side.
"Father, is this our new mom?" Noah asked. He's not as bright as Mary."I'm Mary Moore, nice to meet you." she extend her hand for me to shake.
I hold securely."I'm Sara. Thanks for accepting me." I turn to Noah and he smiles. Back Liam cut.
"I thought you will be much older. I guess I have to call you mother, right?" he asked sarcastically.
"Liam, I told you to behave. Sara is now our family. You have to obey her." Jack sternly said and grips his walking stick with both hand.
"Hello Liam, I know you may not like me being part of your family, but I do hope we will spend time together in peace." I put a hand on my chest and almost bow when Jack cleared his throat.
"Yeah you'd like that, don't you. How long will it take before we go broke?" he asked and turn his back to walk out the church.
"Don't bother with me, I'm going to my bedroom." he said and leave out."Did I say something wrong?" I asked Jack. He shake his head.
"No Sara, but it'll be hard to get Liam to care. Come on, let's go home." he holds Noah and Mary's hand. I followed beside Noah and we went home in the same carriage.
Once we arrive, my jaw dropped. This isn't a house. It's a mansion. It's so big I could almost call it a castle.
"Noah and Mary, please show Sara around the house tomorrow. I have a business to do and I'm out of town in two days for a week." he said. They nodded and went to their rooms.
"Come, Sara." he walked ahead. I followed him from behind. He let me enter first. Then he locked the door. His room have so many books and papers everywhere. Not even much space for him to lay down.
"Take a seat, anywhere." he said while looking around. "Ah here it is." a bunch of papers clipped together is in his hand. I peak at it and he start explaining.
"I don't have long. At least, before I go, I wanted to let Liam know how to manage my businesses. But I also need somebody to take care of Noah and Mary. They are bright kids but Liam won't understand why I chose you. You were excellent in school but had to drop out to work. I'm sure you'll understand me. Right? " he asked. In his hand were bunch of pills.
"What do I need to do?" I asked in a soft voice. He really loves his kids.
"In 2 days, I'm going on a cruise to expand my business. I'll bring Liam. If I'm still alive, I'll come back in a week. But I'm afraid if I couldn't return, I need you to know. Everything is in this book. My nickname, my identities, the password to my names and securities, everything. And in this papers, are all my possession. Take half of it for yourself, and the other half, I want you to divide them equally for the three of them. Give Noah somebody who can train him in whatever he wanted. Let Mary learn wherever and whatever she wishes to learn. And for Liam, make him the man in this house." he said before laying on his bed.
"Do I sleep in here?" I asked. Looking around for any more place to sleep for the night.
"You can take the room next door. Don't feel burdened to ask for anything okay. Make this your own home." he said. I nodded and pick the book up.
"Is there any more thing I should be aware or rules I should avoid?" I asked. He shake his head and I bid goodnight before leaving his room. I took off the wedding dress and wear a silk night gown. In the room, everything I need are there. I put the book and papers on top of the table and left the room. I'm hungry, I haven't eat since yesterday. Even though nows only evening, I walk around the house wearing a scarf on my shoulder.
I walked and walked but couldn't find the kitchen. It's almost completely dark outside. The oil lamp I burned is slowly dying. It's tiring and I'm starving. So much happened today that tires me. I reached a dead end. Just when I'm about to turn around to get back to my room, a hand grabbed the scarf, almost choking me till I couldn't breathe.
"Trying to steal something in the dark?" he asked. It's Liam. His tall figure leans close behind me with his grip getting tighter.
I shake my head a few times before he decided to let go. I took a few steps forward and turn to look at him. I wrapped the scarf back to my own body.
"Are you crazy?" I asked in low voice, still holding my chest to breathe back.
"I don't know how you managed to get Father to marry you, but don't think I will let you steal from us and the spot of my late-mother." he said. I could see his veins along his hand that holds the lamp.
"You don't have to believe me. I'm not gonna be here forever. But I can give you my word. I'm not here to steal anything." trying to regain my composure, I spoke with clear reason.
"Then explain why you're in this part of the mansion, at night, wearing my mother's scarf." he point to the scarf, his eyes darkened.
"I only wish to have a light snack before I sleep. I am lost." before I get to continue my words, my knees give up. I holds the wall for support, shaking my head to throw away the dizziness.
"You're gonna act like you're sick to get away with it? I knew it, you're just as crazy as Father, trying to make you his new wife." he said before leaving me alone. I shut my eyes tight and try to walk back. Once the corridor is familiar, the feeling of relief brushed over.
I went into my room and fill a cup with tap water from the bathroom, hoping it'll be enough till tomorrow. The room isn't so bad, the bed is big enough for 3 people. I sit on it and felt like laying on feathers. The first soft thing I've ever felt in so many years. Putting the blanket over till it reach my chin, I close my eyes.
