"Back so soon?" Harvey asked. He was having a cup of coffee by the VIP's table.
"The ceremony ended." I replied, rushing to my room to change my clothes.
"I don't get what's the problem is. You like the family, just reconcile and go back. You don't have to work to your bones anymore." he walked into the room.
"Harvey! I'm about to change. And I had lied to Noah, to Mary. I'm not proud of that. And I don't intend on keep doing it." I put on my apron.
"Your whole life are filled with deception. What could you living with them would do to them?" he scoffed. I've learnt that his word could be hurtful but useful.
"But you've bid your farewell just well, didn't you? It just seems like they won't be as happy and colourful. Like the way the house seemed before you happened.""You think it's easy for me to say goodbye to them?" I shouted at him.
"Hey you're the one who ended it, not them. They had spent weeks searching for you. And I would dare to say, they're gonna spend more thinking how badly you've felt by their reaction that you don't want to go back to them." Harvey crossed his arms.
"Because they were mad at me! Not because I stop loving him! I meant, them." I corrected myself.
"Oh my god, you love Liam." he put his hands to his mouth, shocked.
"I'm not. Forget it. I'm going to the kitchen." I pushed him away from the doorway. He laughed and said,
"You knew I'm right."
At the kitchen, I'm a cook, Sebastian had me going through exams and I was qualified to be the cook.
I managed to keep a low profile and the people here called me Brie. My marriage with Jack were short, and I hardly went out announcing that I'm widowed.
Not that I ever been married.
"One word from my mouth and they're gonna come right at ya." Harvey said and left the diner.
"You better not." I whispered. Continuing my work, the day got me exhausted.
Around 3 in the morning, I had just finish cleaning up the kitchen, most workers already went home.
"Goodnight Liam, Noah and Mary. May we meet again in a better time." I prayed and went to bed.
The next afternoon,
"I went with Joe to their house today." Harvey came from the back door in the kitchen.
"Don't you have your own work to do at the hospital?" I rolled my eyes. But he chuckled at my body language that clearly shows I'm interested.
"I don't think they're gonna get better. The house seems gloomy without any sunshine." he flip through the newspaper.
"Won't it be bad if he behave like before? The twins has grown, yes. But that doesn't mean it's okay to be distanced with their siblings." he said.
"I've failed, even before I could try. But what am I supposed to do?" I put the cloth I'm using to wipe the plates down.
"You could, I don't know, go back to them?" he said.
"Look, I get that you too want me out of your sight. And all I want is a place that would last. Is all I want too much to ask?" I cried. Both hand raised to cover my face.
"Sara, I never thought of kicking you out. But you're killing yourself, tell me, why couldn't you go back when they had already asked for you to return?" he rubbed my back. He stinks of cigarette.
"Is there something wrong with me? Are my expectations far too high? I tried my best, believe me. I tried to think of a good reason for them to trust me, but I couldn't." I pushed him away. I don't want to be touched by others, even the slightest.
