chapter 11 (part of the core)

"It is so nice to have finally gotten rid of him for good," the core said, putting Andrias's crown on its head.

The core saw the puddle of blood Andrias had left behind. It leaned down and dipped its finger in the blood, soaking it. The core then licked it off, tasting the blood.

It walked over to the former kings throne and jumped up on it. "Finally, everything is back under my control," the Core said, getting comfy on the throne. As soon as it suited the scores taste, it called out for a guard. "GAURD!" Pretty soon, a guard did come in and was shocked to find, not Andrias on the throne, but the Core.

"You," it started. "You go tell all your other guard friends this, word for word. Your old king wasn't up to all of the qualifications and was sadly murdered so we are your new ruler. You will do everything exactly as I say and if you fuck up even once, you just might end up just poor Andrias did. Now go. Get out of my sight you ugly lizard."

The newt had visible fear on his face. "Y-yes, your majesty," he said running out as fast as he could.

marcy's pov

I saw it. I saw everything. And I couldn't even do anything. I'm just... stuck. Stuck in my own head. It's like an infinite black whole with a giant screen and front row seats to everything I- or the Core does.

I can't believe I had to just sit back and watch the Core kill my friend. I felt so bad even though there was nothing I could do. I wanted to scream and cry but I just couldn't. Almost like I couldn't feel anything.

Besides that, life has been boring inside the Core. It's mostly just sitting and watching but sometimes (like today) someone in the Core decides to gaslight me.

"You should just give up, Marcy. Your 'friends' aren't coming for you. They don't even care about you."

"I know your lying."

"But we're not. You remember how they reacted before."

"Yea b-but..."

" 'B-but' how come on, dont pretend. You know you wanna give in and just quit."

"You're... not wrong. But Anne and Sasha are out there somewhere. I need to hold on for them."

"Ughh, how many times do we have to say it? They. Don't. Care. Let them get in with their lives and move on."

Silence. I knew they were right. Even if I never let them know. I saw how they reacted when I told them truth.

"They're- they're leavening me behind. Aren't they?"

"Now you're getting it."

"They don't care."

"YES! Keep going. Get all your anger out."

"They're not coming back. And I don't care if they don't."

"That's right. Your home is here now. You get to be one of us."

"M-my home is here now. I will be one of you."

All of a sudden, I closed my eyes, uncontrollably and felt my body slowly disappear. I quickly realized I wasn't my own person anymore. I was part of the core now.
