chapter 1 (a way home)

anne's pov

I woke up one morning and saw that I had a text from Dr. Jan. It said "Hey, Anne, I think we finally finished the portal. Come over to the warehouse asap." Oh my gosh! If they had the portal done, that means we can go back to Amphibia!

But then it hit me. If the portal is done, that means I have to leave my parents. Again. And who knows how long I'll be gone this time. Last time I was there for over 5 months. You know what, I'm gonna spend the rest of the day with my parents. If I'm going to leave, I want to be able to say a proper goodbye.

"Hi, I'm gonna spend the day with my parents, since this might be my last day with them for a while. I'll be there at 8," I texted back. I put my phone down on my dresser and woke up the Plantars, who have been sleeping in my room.

"Guys, guess what?!" They all just groaned at me since I just woke them up. "Dr. Jan and Terri said they finished the portal!" Saying that woke them all up immediately. "Wait, REALLY!" Sprig said full of energy. I nodded "Oh my frog, I can't believe we got to go home!" "I'm glad you're happy, but I need you to not say anything to my parents. I'm gonna spend the day with them, and then we're gonna leave."

"Wait, you're going to leave without saying anything to them?" Hop Pop asked. "Well, I was planning to tell them about it later, but.." I got interrupted by my mom calling us down for breakfast. We all walked downstairs and sat down at the table.

"Are you ok, Anne? You look upset," My mom said in her always caring voice. "Yea, I'm fine. Hey, do you and dad want to spend a cool day with me today? I thought it might be fun." "I'm sorry. We just can't today. We have too much work with the restaurant and.." I started to cry. I couldn't help it. "Hey, it's ok. There's always tomorrow."

That set me off. I couldn't take it anymore. I started to spill my guts out. "Dr. Jan and Terri texted me this morning saying that they have the portal all finished, and I need to go with the Plantars to defeat Andrius AND makeup with my 2 best friends and I don't even know how long I'm gonna be there for this time. And I- I'm scared to leave you guys again."

I had my eyes closed when I said that, and when I opened them, my mom looked like she was about to break down. She ran over to me and gave me a hug which made me feel better.

"There's no way we can cancel our work, but maybe you can help us in the restaurant?" My mom offered, and I accepted.

Usually, I didn't really like working in the restaurant, but today was special. I was excited. So I finished eating my breakfast, got the Plantars in their disguises, since no one was supposed to know they were frogs, got myself dressed, and we all jumped in the car.

When we got to the restaurant I realized that my mom wasn't kidding. It was packed. I made my way through the crowd of people when I saw my mom whisper to my dad. When she walked away from him, my dad stared at me. I got to the kitchen, and my dad hugged me tightly.

"Hate to interrupt this sweet moment, but we have customers to serve." My mom said and we all started to get to work.

After the last customer left, we closed up the shop. I started cleaning some dishes when my mom gave me and the Plantars each a bowl of noodles. We were eating them as my mom and dad finished up a few last-minute chores.

After I finished, I looked at my phone. "It's 8:00. We gotta get to the warehouse." We put our bowls in the sink and all got in the car to drive to the warehouse.

When we got there, there was a giant machine, which I could tell was the portal. Terri was at a control panel and Dr. Jan was on the other side of the portal. "Oh hey, guys!" Terri said as Dr. Jan poked her head out and waved at us. "We've already tested the portal, and based on your guys' description, I think we even have the right coordinates." "Ohh. Lemme see!" Sprig said eagerly while jumping up in the air.

Terri did as he said and turned on the portal. "Yup, that's home." Hop Pop said. "Come on guys!" Polly said about going through the portal.

I looked over at my parents with tears in my eyes. I walked over to them and gave them a hug. After the hug split, my mom pulled out a backpack with snacks, books, and even a pair of shoes. "For your trip." My mom said in a soft voice. "Thank you."

I put the book bag on my back, and the Plantars and I were about to through the portal when all of a sudden, there was a giant bang as the robot Andrius sent had come crashing through the roof. "Ugh, not him again. Stay back mom and dad," I said as the Plantars and I all started charging for it.

Sprig grabbed his slingshot from out of his pocket and started launching mud balls at it. The robot picked up Sprig and threw him at the wall. Right after, Polly started to punch and kick, but the robot kicked her back. She flew through the air like a soccer ball.

Me and Hop Pop started running towards the robot at the same time. I picked up a random metal pipe from off the ground and started hitting the robot with it. Little pieces of glass and other things were flying everywhere. Soon, it knocked the pipe out of my hands and knocked me back.

At this point, it seemed hopeless. I and the Plantars were all on the ground. The robot was about to smash all of us when all of a sudden my mom and dad held the robot's arm up so we could escape. We all got out from under its hand and my mom and dad started fighting the robot the same way I was.

Pretty soon Dr. Jan and Terri were fighting it too. It was no use. It launched them too.

I saw everyone looking defeated. It seemed hopeless at this point, but just in time, my cool blue powers activated. I started to fly towards the robot and punched it right in the face. Half of its face came off. After that, I grabbed it and swung it around, and threw it out a window. I started to slowly come back to the ground as I saw everyone start to stand up.

When I got to the ground, I immediately collapsed on the ground. Using those powers really ware me out. Everyone started to run towards me and hug me. They all helped me get up.

The Plantars and I all started to walk through the portal, with them helping me walk, when I heard my mom yell "We love you!" I waved back as a tear started to fall from my eye. I looked straight ahead of me, and before I knew it, We were back in Wartwood!

But it was different than before. A lot darker. It kind of looked like there could have been a fire here. "What... happened here?"
