Doki Doki literature club: the nightrunners

chapter 5: what's right and wrong.

Kazz's POV

The two words that escaped my lips shocked the nightrunners, even Kat. all their eyebrows raised and eyes widen with surprised. i held my hand up as i owe them an explanation.

"Don't get me wrong, i support what you guys have done. im glad you keep the citizens safe." i lower my arm as i stared at them with honest reasoning. "but...i don't know much about you nightrunners besides those facts. i don't know who any of you are and don't know if you can be trusted. you might be have a more important scheme hidden up your sleeves that nobody might no about."

"you made valid points thus far sir." queen nodded. "but i assure you we are the good guys. we have no hidden agenda."

"there has to be more to why you dont want to join?" Star asked gently as those blue eyes focus on me. honestly she was very cute if it werent for this odd situation. i turned around and crossed my arms.

"...im not up for facing the dangers that you girls have overcome." i looked over my shoulder. "and i prefer to keep myself distant from people." they all exchanged a look before violet took a turn to speak.

"why do you want to.." she began before i waved my hand gently.

"it makes me feel better." i said as i began my exit through the door. "let's leave it at that." i stopped to turned towards them and offer a small smile. "please stay safe though." and with that i dash out before they had chance to stop me. i crept in the dark with incredible running speed as i made my way back home. i quickly ran inside and shut the door, running up to my bathroom as i looked at myself in the mirror.

i couldn't believe the attire i wore as my black mask covered my upper face pretty well along with the flat hat. i was like them. but this doesn't make any sense! how and why do i have these powers?! im no fighter let alone a hero!

"this is all so messed up." i sighed as i continued to look at the mirror before a flash of light came and my attire disappeared back to my original outfit! im losing my mind. i just need to go to bed and pretend this didn't happen. who would believe me if i told a story like this?

i went to my bedroom and sat on my bed, just realizing now that everything that has happened...i wasn't too tired. i laid on my back as i recalled everything that happened. did i make the right choice not to join them? i mean i care about my safety. but more of the point was i scared. today was a crazy freaking day. i closed my eyes, taking deep breaths as i calmed my nerves.

i stood in the dark void again as i looked around. was this another dream? why now? i just wanted to sleep in peace for one day. then suddenly i felt someone was near me. my heart hammered as i listen intently for any movement. then a dim glow appeared before me before it got brighter. i soon made it out as a face before the rest of his attire came into full view. his face was red and had black horns with red random spots as one can presumably can say is blood. he wore a black cloak as his long arms revealed his demon-like claw hands. i wanted to scream but no noise came out. i wanted to run, but my legs weren't responding. i continued to stare as a booming voice came from his unmoving mouth.

"there's no need to be afraid. you and i are the same." only then i slowly moved my mouth to speak.

"w-what the hell are you talking about? who are you?"

"you may refer to me as the Overseer."

The Overseer? what was this thing?

"it seems i finally have a chance to meet my 6th client. you had quite the performance the other night."
