Episode 8: Alone in the darkness

A light turned on in the canyon. Midori opened her eyes and stared at her wound. Her blood was all over her leg. She grabbed her bag and she used the tweezers to take the bullet out and she threw it. She rapped her leg up and stood up. She had a little limp but she was alright. She then saw an octarian, it was the one that pulled her down. Midori pushed it but it didn't move. He was dead. She then grabbed its weapon and began to walk threw the dark with her flashlight.

The canyon was cold and dark, everywhere she stepped, she stepped in a puddle and the pain in her leg was killing her. She passed many odd shapes but when she shined her light on them, they were old abandoned buildings. Midori stared at them for a minute then she stopped to replace the bandage. Soon she was off again in search of help.

She then saw a light in the distance. It was faint but it looked like a fire. "Is anyone there?" She called out. No reply. She called out again. "Any one over there?" No reply. So she started to walk over to it. Her leg was still leaking blood so before she reached the light, she felt a worse pain in her legs and she fell to the ground and cried out, "Any one there? I need help..." Then she fainted due to her blood loss.

She then felt warmth. She began to open her eyes and she saw she was sitting in front of a fire. Her leg hurt less now, it had new bandages on it and she felt like she had not lost much blood. She looked around for anyone but she saw no one. So she just sat there and warmed up. She felt great but was still eager to return to the surface. Then she heard footsteps coming in her direction. She shot up but her leg still hurt so she let out a "Owch!" Then the foot stepped stopped for a moment and then started again.

Midori was now frightened. She had no weapon to defend herself but she grabbed a rock and threw it in the direction of the footsteps. She then heard a voice say, "You don't need to throw things. I'm the one who saved you." An Octarian walked out from the darkness and into the light of the fire. Her hair was colored like a sanitized octoling but she wasn't. "Hello Agent 3." "H-How do you know me?!" "Oh! Sorry, I didn't introduce myself. I'm Agent 7, but just call me seven." Midori was surprised. The mysterious agent 7 was standing in front of her.

"What are you doing down here Three?" "I'm actually named Midori, but I'm down here because during the last mission, I was pulled down here by an Octarian soldier and we both fell. He died by the fall and I lived somehow." Seven eyed her leg. "And how did that happen?" "It's a bullet wound. I was shot in the leg and after I awoke down here." "I suppose it was that Evelin figure Cuttlefish mentioned." "Yea. So how did you get down here?" Asked Midori curiously. "Well if you want to know. I must start from the beginning, if it's alright." "It's fine. I have listened to two backstories already. I can listen to another one." So Seven began.

"I don't remember when I was born but I know it was a few years before the great turf war. I loved a peaceful life until the war began. I was separated from my parents and then thrown into the war as a child soldier and as a tear subject for Ayino's father. He tested a early version of sanitized ink and it took some effect because that was when I lose most of my memories, then I was thrown aside and called a failed experiment but I had one special feature afterwards was my hair could change from normal hair to sanitized hair. I was seven when the final battle started and I fled the battle to the metros. I lived on the metros for days waiting for the war to end. I remember I became great friends with the conductor. He started to call me seven because I was seven when I met him, so seven stuck. When the year 2220, I finally left to the surface to start a new life.

"I accidentally followed someone down a sewer drain and it took me to Octo Canyon and I was confronted by Callie, Marie and the Captain. They made me an agent and said I could be a undercover spy and I said yes and I have stayed in this position for 5 years now and I still like it."

Midori nodded her head throughout the story and felt a little sorry for Seven for what Ayino's father did to her. "Now your turn." Said Seven. Midori jumped. "What?!" "Yea. I shared my story, now it's your turn." Midori gulped. "Ok. It's not interesting at all so... here it goes."

"I was born 2203, one year before the war. I lived with my parents in the city but we were forced to leave after the Inkling massacre. We had to take trains to the counties that weren't being affected by the war. I was put on the second to last train to leave the station and my parents were on the last train. My train struggled to leave the platform until it gripped the tails and we soon bolted out of the station. We passed a section of track that had Octarian soldiers next to it and they began to plant something in the sleepers after we went by. A few moments later, we all heard a explosion. We looked back and saw a crater in the ground and the last two coaches from my parents' train sat there. The Octarians had bombed the last train and the rest of the passengers of my parents' train were slottered. I was only five when they died and I went to live with my mothers sister and I was in a state of depression until I was about nine. That's when people started to call me goth or dark, but I wasn't, I was getting over my depression. After high school, I left to return to Inkopolis and the rest is history."

Midori sighed and looked at her phone. On it was a picture of her and her parents. Seven then looked over at the inkling and patted her shoulder. "At least you still have your friends." She said. Midori then smiled and then swiped the picture and there was a picture of Ayino and Ayumi with her when they first met. Midori stared at Ayin in the photo for a moment and Seven saw a look in Midori's eyes. "So you have a crush on Ayino?" "What?!?! N-No I d-don't!" Midori's face went red in embarrassment and Seven laughed. "It's alright. I'm the only one who would know about this so you're secret is safe with me." Midori thanked her.

They heard footsteps in the distance. Seven looked in the direction they were coming from. She looked at Midori. "I'm sorry I have to do this." "Do what?" Then Seven shot Midori with a Splatter Shot and Midori went unconscious. The group walked over. "Hey! That's an inkling." Said one. "Even better, and agent! Thanks for her Seven." They then picked her up and carried Midori away. As soon they were out of sight, Seven sighed. "Now. I have screwed up. So how do I get out of this hole I put myself in now." Then she began to think. She thought of a perfect plan but that'll have to wait until next time.

( There's not much to say about this chapter besides the Midori backstory bit and the Agent 7 stuff. Starting with the Midori backstory, I actually enjoy it. Its certainly better than Ayino and Ruby's backstories but its far from perfect. Now Agent 7... I have mixed feelings on her. Not much to say about her apart from I hate how I wrote her. )
