Episode 3: The Deputation
Based on, The Twin Engine's by Wilbert Awdry
Midori, Ayumi, Ayino, Ruby, Samantha and Josh met up at Octo Canyon. They called Captain Cuttlefish and told him everything. He also said he needed a new agent because there were more missions for the three of them to handle . When they arrived, he was surprised to see two. "I said I needed one new agent, not two. But I will be kind and put you two both on trial. You two will be agents Nine and Ten, and Ruby is our new inside intelligence. Now. I will make a decision later to keep one of you." "Yes sir!" They said and went to work.
The two worked well together. They did many missions together as a team. One night at home. The two began to talk. Mother wanted to stay without the other, they said so. "So each day be as good as the other. Then he'll have to keep us both." Suggested Josh. "I'm thinking your right there." Agreed Samantha. Their plan worked well until not long after, Samantha had an accident. She wasn't looking at where she was going while moving some equipment. She tripped over a training dummy and tripped, and fell on her equipment. It was in pieces. Cuttlefish was not pleased.
"I have my mind made up. I was going to send Josh away and keep you, but I see you have upset my arrangements." "I'm sorry sir." She said. " I should think so! Now Ayumi will have to help out with your missions while you have your equipment mended. She wouldn't be pleased." And he was right. Ayumi grumbled about it. She had more to do and she didn't like it one bit. One evening after a long day of doing missions and work, all she wanted was some rest. She sat on the couch at the base resting. Then unbenounced to Ayumi, Josh, Ayino, and Midori came up laughing. "Anyone would think," said Josh, "That Samantha had her accident on purpose. I have heard about an agent and some ink tanks." "Shut up! It's not funny!" She didn't like being reminded of her own accident. For context, about a year ago, she had an accident with some ink tanks while shopping and they fell on her covering her in different ink. Then Ayumi left Octo Canyon without another word.
Next day, she was tired and she came early. Josh was there. "I might need help on my next mission. Can you assist me please?" Asked Ayumi. "Ok. I will." Then the two set off. Their mission was to move some Octarian equipment from point A to the spawn point or point B. The load was on old mine carts. They had to push them to the spawn. They began to push up a steep incline. Ayumi was out of breath. "I can't do it. I can't do it." She said. "Leave it to me. Leave it to me!" Said Josh and began to push. His face and hands went red. "Go steady. The carts are breaking!" Then they heard splintering wood and falling equipment. The carts were in pieces and the equipment damaged.
Midori and Cuttlefish came to see them. "I might have known it was Josh." He said crossly. "Josh was grand sir," said Ayumi. "I was out of breath and he worked hard enough for three!" "Two would have been enough. I want to be fair Josh. But I don't know, I really don't know." Cuttlefish was making up his mind of who to send away.
That night, Samantha returned with her new gear. Josh caught her up to speed. The two sighed. "The odds are against us." Said Samantha. The two walked home side by side looking glum.
Bye now, it was around early September. Captain Cuttlefish had left on a holiday for a week. The snow had fallen early one week. Many say this had never happened before the Great Turf War. The snow fell heavenly and Octo Canyon was covered in snow and the agents had to take turns shoveling the snow and no one liked it. Samantha and Josh were used to it. Together with shovels in hand, they shoveled at the snow like it was nothing. Sometimes the snow slipped away easily, but sometimes the snow was so packed, they had to both use one shovel together and hacked away at the heavy drifts. One early morning, there was a pile of snow that was bigger than the others. They charged it, and were about to give it another go when, "Help! Help!!" "Lord sakes Josh! It's Callie! Don't worry yourself Callie, wait a while! We'll have you out!"
Callie was very great, and was soon covered in a warm blanket and drinking hot cocoa. When the two sat down next to her, everyone noticed not all was well. The two looked glum. They said Cuttlefish was making a decision. "He will send one of us away for sure." "It's a shame!" Said Ayino. "A lot of nonsense about damaged equipment. It would have happened to anyone if you ask me." Said Midori. "And those old carts too, good riddance! That's what I say." Said Ayumi. "They were splendid in the snow," put in a cold Callie. Marie spoke next, "I think something should be done. It's not like me to say this but I think gramps is making a bad decision." Everyone agreed but none knew what. That night, Ayino sat on her bed. She then typed out on her computer for a bit and then found her answer.
The next day, she told the other agents. "We need a-a depo station!" "Of course!" Said Midori. "But what is a desporation?" Quizzed Ayumi. "It's when we tell Captain Cuttlefish something is wrong and ask him to put it right." "Did you say tell gramps?!" Said Marie. Then there was a long silence.
"I propose," said Midori, "That Ayino be our, uh, disputation." "Me!" Squeaked Ayino. "Why me!" "Rubbish Ayino! You said it yourself, it's easy." Said Ayumi. "Then it's decided." Said Marie and they all left for their missions, but poor Ayino wished it wasn't. All day, Ayino thought of what she was going to say, but by that afternoon, she only had thoughts of being a disbutation. That afternoon, Cuttlefish came back.
"Hello Ayino. Glad to be back." Ayino jumped and knocked over some crates. "Uh, yes sir, please sir." Said Ayino. "You look nervous, Ayino. What's the matter?" "Please, sir, they made me a desperation, sir, to speak to you sir. I don't like it, sir." Cuttlefish pondered. "Do you mean a deputation, Ayino?" "Yes sir, please sir. It's Samantha and Josh. They say, sir, that if you send them away, sir, well, they'll never see each other due to the Splatoons secrecy, sir. That would be dreadful, sir. Please, sir, don't send them away. Their nice Inklings, sir." "Thank you Ayino. That will do." And he walked away.
Later that afternoon, Cuttlefish had an announcement to make. "I had a deputation. I understand your feelings and I give a lot of thought to the matter." He paused impressively. He looked at the nervous pair. "I have heard your work in the snow and in the field was impressive, you two shall have new uniforms." The two smiled. "Thank you sir!" They said together. "But does this mean that the both of us?" The Captain smiled. "It means-" but the rest of his speech was drowned in cheers and clapping. Samantha and Josh were here to stay.
Later that night, Ayino was cleaning the broken crates. Then... "Ouch!" She had a large cut in her arm. The blood oozed from her arm to the concrete floor. Marie saw the blood and came over. "Ar-Are you alright? Let me he-" "No! I don't need help." She blurted out. Then Marie left looking at Ayino with great suspicion. She grabbed some water and washed away the blood and put a large bandage on her arm and used the rest of the water to clean the blood off the ground. She put the wood in another crate, then threw the piece of bloody wood off the edge of a platform. Then she left saying to herself, "It only spreads through blood."
( This is what I call a very poor attempt at adapting a Thomas story into a Splatoon series. At the time I thought the idea was good but looking back, it was a poor one. Lots of the dialogue was ripped straight from the episode and only the names and some lines were replaced. And the sad thing is that this was the first of many Thomas adaptions... but those dont come until later and THANK GOD they dont come next. These Thomas adaptations were super stupid and again, what was 2020 and 2021 me on.)
