 Chapter 65

We were on the site again, north of the town where the borders were located. This time, we were in the tower by the road that had always been crowded by guards and wild wolves.

My every breath was cold. The air was filled with death, tears, and blood. The dead bodies of the prisoners were picked up earlier in the morning and they were burned into ashes.

The monster of the night was gone but not for long.

He had to return.

Once more.

Dim light squeezed in from the clouds above in the sky. The sun was barely visible, but it was there, hovering and protecting the town as it always did.

"It's a long shot. The creature's whereabouts are unknown. I haven't been able to receive in any tips from the towns nearby. What if he's gone?" Knox asked, worried with lines of stress forming in his forehead. He held his phone high in one hand, talking to people, arranging the night.

I had told the twins the name of their elder brother—Gideon—but they preferred calling him the dark creature instead.

There was evil within everyone. No one was innocent in this world, especially not among us creatures. We all had done something bad, murdered someone, betrayed someone, or injured someone but at the end of the day, we held regrets within us.

The dark creature didn't.

He mercilessly killed more than a hundred thousand creatures and set terror in everyone's heart just for the name of revenge.

"He won't be gone. He wants you both and the minute you call for him, he will be here." I turned around from the railing and looked at Knox.

Startled, he gave me an envious glare as I was no longer in danger but he and Cain were going to be targeted by his own brother. Gideon couldn't kill me, even if he wanted to.

I was his mate just as I was Knox and Cain's.

Neither of them could really kill me.

This was fun.

"How do you know you'll be able to kill him? Does a small girl like you has that much strength?" He asked, stepping forward and pushing my back against the railing.

My shoulders broadened, "Let me feed on you, I'll have a lot more strength." I smiled back, wickedly as he had taunted me.

He lowered his gaze to my lips while his hand raised to my cheek. My heart softened as this thumb caressed my face as gently as he could. "You're a smart girl. I like you." He winked.

"I'm the hero after all—"

"Heroine." He cut me off.

"Right!" I reached on my tiptoes and wrapped my arms around his neck before placing my head against his chest and hearing his comforting heart thumping. "I can't wait for this all to be over," I whispered while drawing in a long, heavy breath.

"Neither can I." He kissed my head and rubbed my back. "Let's hope it will be. I've many plans for us."

"Us?" My heart raced.

"Us. Once we had ridden off my so-called brother from this land and earth, we will have you for ourselves." He ran his finger across my hair, pushing a few locks behind. "Day and night. You'll be ours, only ours."

"I am already." I smiled at him.

"Well, you're still connected to someone and that makes me greatly furious." His lips moved slowly while his eyes glimmered with love.

I cocked my head up, meeting his gaze, "But he is your elder brother. If you can share me with one, you can share me with another too." I teased him with light humor and in return, his eyes burned with jealousy, and he held me tighter.

"I'm not sharing you with monster ever." He whispered as his lips hovered over mine. He blew his warm breath over my mouth and the urge to kiss him right away fell into me.

I moved forward in desire to kiss him, but he jerked back. "Oh, don't be jealous!" I exclaimed.

"I'm not jealous." He huffed out a breath and tore his eyes away from mine.

"You are!" I grabbed his arm and pulled him back toward me while I hung nearly off the railing of the tower, only inches away from falling and losing my head forever. "I'm yours and Cain's. You know how much I want to get rid of him just as you do."

"Promise?"

A burst of small laughter passed my lips before I wrapped my arms around him. "Of course. I would rather die than having my soul connected to him for another day. I love you, Knox and you know that well." I moved back and held his face in my hand. "You're my favorite and you'll always be but don't tell Cain," I whispered in a low voice, barely enough to reach him.

The smile broadened on his beautiful, glowering face. He grabbed me off my feet with his bare arms and picked me up from the ground before rolling me around.

"Oh, Candice, I don't think so I've loved anyone more than I love you." He said, placing his hand underneath my ass for hold.

I wrapped my legs around his waist and grasped onto him tight. "I know that," I replied before resting my head over his chest and watching the forest near the town darken with every minute.

It was six, the sun was setting, we were getting close to night and every minute counted as there was a plan set to attract the dark creature back into the forest and kill him.

Tonight.

Neither of us was willing to wait for a day. I didn't have enough energy to keep Gideon out of my head. It took all of me. It would be a great risk to let him in and read my thoughts. If he learned what was going to happen to him, we would all be doomed for life.

I couldn't risk it.

Knox circled me around. I looked over his shoulders and heard a couple of footsteps reaching toward us from the spiral stairs in the same tower near the border.

I stepped down and created a distance between us while the men came inside the opening. Cain led the group of warriors. As he stepped up, he took a glance at me and then at Knox.

"We don't have enough resources to attract the dark creature again. There are just a few prisoners left and that's not enough." Cain announced with his eyes wide and full of focus. "We need to come up with another plan."

There was a plan in place. Before midnight, we were intending on setting the prisoners free into the forest, repeating the plan again, and attracting the dark creature here. Once he was close enough, I was going to step out from the borders with the sword and bring an end to him.

"What else can we do?" Knox grew concerned again. His happiness only lasted for a minute along with Cain's.

"Order the warriors to take positions," Cain suggested, his face grew pale at the thought.

"We can't do that!"

"We have to do something." He snapped in anger and frustration.

"I'm not going to let our wolves risk their lives. The main purpose of all this was to keep our pack protected and if we can't do that, then what are we? Certainly not Alpha's." Knox scoffed, his expression hardened.

"What do you suggest then?" Cain cocked a brow at his brother. He was ready to risk a few warriors of his own pack to the dark creature, but Knox objected to it.

A minute of silence passed. I stared at Knox. A grin slowly lifted the corners of his mouth before he replied, "We create enough chaos within the borders to attract him here."

"What kind of chaos?"

"A party. A ceremony. A wedding. Whatever our wolves love to crash into." He continued, sounding horrific.
