After witnessing the twins trying to dress me up, I was sure they weren't blood twins as they claimed to be. Cain had a darker taste in fashion compared to Knox who just wanted to see me in a pink fluff coat. When leaving the estate, I was in numerous colors, some black and some pink here and there. The few minutes inside the room with them took me away from my thoughts but as soon as that was over, the fear returned along with the terrifying thoughts of the dark creature swallowing me up and killing me.

The car came to a stop at a similar location, one I had been in before. I stepped out on my stomach and stood near the towers at the last exit of the town. A gush of cold wind swept my hair and turned it into a rumble but I didn't care less. I pushed my hands into the jacket while hearing the twins getting out of the car one by one.

They were quiet.

For once.

"I remember getting threatened and almost killed here. Does anyone else?" I twirled around and fluttered my lashes while shooting glances at them both. It wasn't too long ago.

"I don't remember."

"I don't recall either." Cain shrugged and walked past me.

"I do!" I exclaimed. "And there were no apologies done for that. How long do I have to wait for that?" I walked behind them, watching their muscles flex under the bare moonlight. My mouth watered and I quickly fisted my hands, restraining myself until the night was over and the favor to the twins was completed.

Oh, the joy.

"You're never getting an apology for that. Let's not forget you were the one that entered our town and injured our people." Cain spoke in his low and dark tone. I was sure he didn't have an ounce of humanity inside him—or even an emotion. Furthermore, it was baffling to think that he could possibly love me.

Maybe Knox was wrong about his own brother.

Or maybe not.

"And now I'm doing something good." I jumped behind them, quickened my pace, and pushed myself between the little gap the twins had. They consumed me so I consumed them. "Shouldn't I be applauded for it?" I said in a low whisper, acting as if the entire thing had saddened me. It had but it wasn't something new.

My heart had been full of fear ever since I first heard about the dark creature. I turned the fear into courage after a long time before leaving my hometown and traveling here on my own. Six months ago, means of transportation were minimum for vampires and werewolves. We were easily killed as the dark creature was then stronger compared to what he had become now. I assumed it had something to do with the gem.

Knox clapped at first and his brother followed to cheer up my mood. I smiled and giggled between them while we walked over to the stairs that would then lead us to the top of the tower. The towers were usually used by their men to spot the dark creature or any other creatures entering their territory.

"A penny for all that strength!" Cain patted my back hard. "I'm proud."

"Thank you." I grinned behind them.

The bricked stairs took us to the top. It was a long, tiring walk and I stopped halfway through only to be picked up by Cain. He carried me for a level before tossing me to Knox. I continued getting spoiled and enjoyed every minute of it.

My eyes stayed glued with Knox's and the smile on my face never disappeared. From my head to my toes, I felt a strong, warm sensation as he took me upstairs. His muscles didn't even flinch the slightest as he took on my weight.

"You do care about me." My smile grew.

"I told you, I do."

I raised my arm and circled it over his shoulder before holding the back of his neck and tucking myself in his sweet embrace. The sounds of the wind whooshing grew louder as went upstairs to the top. It also grew colder. Hair over my skin rose. I trembled and Knox tightened his hold on me, hoping it would warm me down.
