"Father, please don't do this" Isabel said as tears rushed down her cheeks.
"It's my time, I have to go" her father, the king said as he touched her cheeks.
"No-oo you can't leave me all alone in this wicked world, Father, please don't leave me"
"I have to, Isabel but there's something I want to give you before I go my dear" he said and brought out a golden ring from his chest pocket."Take this ring" he said and handed it over to her.
"What is this Father?" She asked, examining the ring
"This ring would help you in future,you must put it on always" he said and coughed heavily
"Father, are you okay? Do you need anything?" She asked in tears
"It's time for me to join your mother" he said and took his last breath.
"Fatherrrrr" Isabel screamed loudly.
The guards and maids rushed in and took her away from the corpse.
"Don't take him away, he's not dead" she said as she was struggling to free herself from the guards.
Her father's dead body was taking away and Isabel was taking to her chamber by the maids. She cried until her eyes was bloodshot,the maids try to console her but still she didn't stop until her stepmother, Queen Helena came in. She ordered the maids to go out.
"After you successfully killed the king the way you killed your mother with those evil eyes of yours, you are now shedding crocodile tears" she said and spatted on her.
" Mother, I didn't kill my parents" Isabel responded in tears.
"Will you stop calling me mother,do I look like your dead mother? Next time you call me mother you will regret the day you were given birth to". She said and left the room.
Isabel couldn't control her tears,she cried as if she will never cry again. Suddenly,she remembered the ring her father gave to her before he took his last breath.
"I will keep it forever" she said as she clung it to her chest. She slipped it into her right middle finger. Just then her door was flung opened, it was her stepsisters, Felicia and Patricia.
"You evil girl, how dare you kill our father" Felicia said as she pushed her to the bed.
" You killed your mother and now you fed on our father too. You will regret this, I promise" Patricia, the youngest princess said.
Isabel said nothing. She knew if she tried to talk that would make her sisters more furious.
"I will always hate you" Felicia said and left, Patricia followed her.
Sonia, Isabel's best friend among the maids rushed in.
"Are you okay? She asked checking every single part of Isabel's body.
"Your body is getting hot Isabel,stop crying, please" Sonia said with pleading eyes.
"How can I stop crying Sonia, my mother died a year ago after being poisoned by an unknown person and now my father is dead and I am being accused of their deaths,how can I stop crying,tell me? She said as she burst in to tears.
"We all know you didn't kill your parents,so please stop crying" she said as she made Isabel lean on her shoulders.
The death of the king struck the kingdom of Agnam many people were worried as to who would take over the throne because the king didn't have a heir.
"What a pity, the king really tried for this kingdom" a villager who was discussing about it said to his fellow friend.
" Now that there's no heir to the throne, is Queen Helena going to take over?" the other villager asked
" Of course she's going to rule us since there is no heir, I hope she could continue from where the king has stopped"
"But I heard that she's wicked"
"Hey, keep shut, I think you want your lips cut off" the other villager said and left his friend standing.
"Won't you wait for me".
Early the next day,the king's corpse was to be burnt. The queen and the princesses were the only one wearing white garments like the custom says.
The rites were performed by the Royal priest before the king's body was set on fire.
Tears were shed, screaming was not left behind. Sonia held Isabel tightly because she knew she might run into the fire.
After the king body turned into ashes, everyone was leaving one after the other except Isabel. She waited until everyone was gone before going to the spot her father was burnt. Sonia gave her a small jar, where she took in some ashes before going back to her chamber. Now,she has stopped crying.
Sonia brought her some food to eat,she ate only little out of it. She had lost her appetite,she decided to sleep.
She woke up in the evening and decided to stroll around the palace,her maids followed her while Sonia was beside her. She bumped into Felicia who was also strolling around the palace.
"Has crying finally made you go blind? Felicia asked harshly.
"Sorry, my princess it was..." Sonia tried to apologise on Isabel's behalf but Felicia cut her short.
"Did I ask you,or as your princess gone dumb"
"Felicia,am sorry, it was not intentional" Isabel apologized
"It had better not repeat itself" she said and pushed Isabel out of her way.
"Are you hurt,my princess?" Sonia asked Isabel after Felicia was gone.
"No" she responded "let's return to my chamber".
After her encounter with Felicia that evening,she didn't go out of her chamber again.
