"Wake up sleepy head." Peter's voice said as I heard him opening up the curtains. I groaned and covered my eyes to block out the light. I heard my chair squeak as I assumed Peter sat down. "You got to skip yesterday, you have to start today." He said leaning back a little bit. I cozied myself into my bed sheets and hid my face from the bright now. "Tell them I'm still recovering." I groaned through my blankets. I felt a rush of cold as he uncovered me.
"Up." He said sternly, I looked up with tired eyes. "I'll give you thirty minutes." He said and walked out of the room.
I threw on my plain white uniform and belted the pants around my waist. I flipped on the light in my tiny bathroom and looked at the products on the sink counter.
'Face wash' a small white bottle read. "No ingredients-" I cringed at the bottle thinking maybe they put acid in it so that I'd die before I would escape.
A knocking sound came from my door and I opened it, glaring at the impatient angelic man. "Ready to start your first day now Ms. Sophie?" He cups his hands together and tilts his head with a condescending smile. "Sure-" I roll my eyes and look away from him.
Walking the white-tiled halls, my footsteps deafened my ears, "So what am I doing today?" I asked to try and relinquish the awkward silence.
"For today I'll get you acquainted with the camera room, that's where you'll keep watch and write down anything interesting." He said glancing down at me.
As we walked down a hallway on floor four, reaching a brown door that read, "Security Cameras." Peter swiped his ID card on the pad next to the door and unlocked the door. Inside was multiple monitors with black and white grainy videos of all the cameras. Sitting at the desk was a man with curly brown hair and dark brown eyes. His physique was a bit muscular with clear tan skin. My confidence lowered as I definitely wasn't hot enough to work here.
"Well, who might this pretty lady be?" He turned to the open doorway and grinned. I could see Peter's eyebrow twitch as he spoke. "Were you not notified that your temporary position is filled?" Peter dodged the man's question.
Arthur stood and walked over to the two of us, he was about the same height as Peter. "I was informed, just wanted to meet the person taking over, maybe show her the ropes." He stared at me as I staggered awkwardly. "Actually, Arthur, I was instructed specifically to train her myself." Peter stepped in front of me, blocking me from the other man in the room.
Arthur scoffed with a small, ticked-off laugh. "You're such a stickler to the rules Ballard, cmon, take a break." He glared at Peter and held up his arm to Peter, trying to get closer to me.
I don't think I've seen Peter look angry, his eyebrow twitched as Arthur put his arm up to him. "Remove your arm, you may stay in the room but I am training her, specific orders from Dr. Brenner." His tone was low as he glared into Arthur's dark eyes. Arthur backed away a bit and leaned against the wall farthest from the door.
"Sophie, why don't you take a seat and we can start training," Peter said, his tone still low and angry, his bright blue eyes not leaving Arthur.
I sat down at the desk chair, a bit overwhelmed by the screens. "How will I know when something is going on, and what are noteworthy things to write down?" I look over at Peter, a bit anxious I'll fuck something up and I'll be locked in my room like a prisoner again.
"If you see someone stop working or go into a room, write it down on that notepad with the camera number," Peter said and flipped the pages of the notebook on the desk. "It's mostly the same thing every day, just copy what I've written and relax with me for the rest of the day." Arthur leaned pressed his arms on the desk, leaning towards me.
