Black smoke continued to leak into the room. I froze in place, panic filling my body.
"Call 119!" Haechan instructed me while he ran to the assistant's desk.
"I'm not getting any signal," I shouted from across the room after trying to dial the emergency number.
"Something's wrong," He replied, slamming down the office telephone that was sitting on the desk. "I tried reaching someone on the first floor but the landline isn't working either."
I bit my lip nervously.
What the hell is going on?
"Don't you have an emergency exit?" I desperately asked.
"It's on the other side of those glass doors."
His tone was uneasy. It was clear that he had no idea what to do.
Think y/n, think...
I scanned the room carefully, trying to come up with a plan.
That's it!
"I apologize in advance," I told Haechan as I rushed to the assistant's desk.
I rummaged through the drawers, searching for a pair of scissors. After acquiring the pair of scissors, I removed the coat he had lended me earlier and cut one of the sleeves into three parts.
I ran to the water dispenser, soaking the three pieces of fabric.
"What are you-"
"Keep this over your mouth and nose." I instructed Haechan while handing him one of the wet cloths.
He didn't object, doing exactly as I told him.
I used one of the wet cloths to measure the temperature of the frosted glass doors. It was warm but still cool enough to let me know the flames hadn't reached us yet, however, the black smoke seeping in signaled that it was close.
"We need to shatter the doors." I told him.
He looked around the room carefully.
"Stand back." He lifted a chair and threw it against the glass. After a few attempts the glass began to crack. "Shield your eyes," He warned before slamming the chair against the glass one last time.
I heard the glass shatter, opening my eyes in time to see the growing flames.
"Where's the stairwell?" I asked, my voice muffled by the wet cloth.
He held my hand, leading me in the opposite direction of the flames. We reached a metal door that was located at the end of the corridor.
"What's wrong?" I asked as I watched him struggle to open the door.
Fear overcame his eyes.
"Something is blocking us in."
Haechan used his body to try and push the door open but it was no use, whatever was on the other side had us trapped. The flames were closing in on us fast, the thick smoke making it hard to breathe.
