Painted lips

She stands in front of the mirror

In a little black dress and

Hot pink pumps on her feet

Ready to take on the world

In a heartbeat

Only those eyes of hers give away

Her tears smudge the mascara on their way

How ludicrous had she been?

The betrayal coming she hadn't seen

But she ain't getting second chances

To sit over and cry

So she straightens her back

And dabs her eyes dry

Just another coat of red lipstick

And she'd be ready to go

Those daunted eyes hidden by those painted lips

And the world would never know.
