SOPHIE'S POV:

Damn you, mum.

I was helping my mother cook while Zayn was playing football in the yard with my little brother. I was actually surprised to be honest, he was amazing around kids. And it also shocked me how nice he was to my mum. I could tell she liked him.

"So, you and Zayn..?" My mom asked, making me stop what I was doing completely.

"NO!" I yelled, dropping the spoon I was stirring the sauce with.

How could she even think that?!

She smirked at me and shook her head.

"Oh, please. I wasn't born yesterday." She said, winking at me.

I rolled my eyes at her and picked up the spoon, placing it in the sink. I got a clean one and continued with the sauce.

"He's nice." She said.

Yeah, real nice, he is. A peach.

"Mhmm.." I mumbled, wanting to avoid this conversation.

I heard her sigh in annoyance before turning around and getting the bread out of the oven.

I finished the sauce and brought it over to our small table, along with the pot of noodles. Mum brought over the bread and I brought the drinks and salad out while she told the boys dinner was ready.

I was carrying a big bowl of lettuce out when suddenly two tan hands ripped it out of my grasp.

"I've got it," I heard Zayn mumble, walking ahead of me to the table.

He didn't smile, or even sound friendly about it. He just did it.

My mum and I sat on one side of the table while my brother wanted to sit with Zayn on the other side, Zayn across from me.

It looks as though John, my brother, had taken a liking to Zayn. If I wasn't scared of Zayn, I'd think it was cute how well he got on with John. John doesn't have anyone to play with where we live, because we don't necessarily live in a safe part of town. Mum doesn't like him going outside to play with the neighborhood kids, and honestly I don't either. There are some perverts on our road.

"Alright, dig in!" My mum announced.

We all served ourselves and began eating.

"So Zayn, tell me about yourself!" My mum said sweetly, trying to strike up a conversation.

I looked up and saw Zayn went quite tense. Obviously not wanting to explain much.

"Um, well, I was born here in Bradford and I live with my mum and sisters. I love music and art." He said, keeping it simple.

"Oh, are you in choir with Sophie? You should hear her sing, absolutely amazing, and her songs, oh they're just-" she started, but I cut her off.

"Mum!" I almost yelled, extremely embarrassed.

I heard Zayn chuckle.

"I'd love to hear them sometime." He said, giving me a small smile.

Mum smiled at him and they kept making small talk throughout dinner.

Once we all finished, I took the dishes to the kitchen while John dragged Zayn to his bedroom to show him his Lego collection.

My mum followed me in the kitchen and we began washing dishes.

"He's sweet." She said out of no where.

Ugh.. Not again.

"Mhmm.." I mumbled, putting a plate on the drying rack.
