ZAYN'S POV:
I woke up in the middle of the night to my phone ringing. Shit, I forgot to turn it off.
I quickly reached over Sophie's sleeping body and grabbed my phone off of her bedside table.
"Hello?" I mumbled tiredly into the phone.
"Zayn, I have some information for you."
It was my friend Harry. And when I say friend, I mean my only friend. Harry is the only person I can trust. I work with him, lived with him for a little while, and we hang out even off the job. Harry's just a good lad, stuck in a bad situation. Like me. We both worked for Randy. Neither of us worked for him because we wanted to, we just did it because we needed money to help our families.
"Can it wait til tomorrow? Sophie's asleep and I don't want to wake her-"
"Zayn, it's about Sophie. She isn't safe."
I gently moved Sophie off of me, having to unwrap her small arms from my waist. I sat upright and was on full alert now.
"What do you know?" I asked.
Harry and I were still very close, despite both of us not working together anymore. I've been keeping him updated on my life, which right now, meant Sophie. He knows that Randy is her father and James is her neighbor, and he's been trying to help me out as much as possible with keeping her safe.
"Randy apparently has people watching Sophie. I thought he just had James, but he has three more guys out there. So be careful." Harry spoke carefully, obviously trying to keep me from yelling.
I nodded and my jaw clenched, this definitely changes things.
I looked down at Sophie's sleeping body. She had moved around so she was cuddled up to my side, gripping onto my stomach. I ran my hand through her hair and then continued.
"Alright. Thanks Harry." I spoke, trying my best to keep my voice calm.
"Mhmm. Just keep a look out."
I assured him that I would and we said our goodbyes before hanging up.
I leaned back against the headboard, looking down at Sophie's sleeping body.
I wish more than anything that she didn't have to go through all this. I wish she could just live a normal, happy life. But sometimes things just don't work out that way.
I brushed my finger across her cheek. She's beautiful, she really is. Her eyelids fluttered a bit, and she moved closer to my body. I smiled at her action. Even if she isn't awake, it shows that she can trust me. And I'm glad. I want her to know that I won't ever hurt her, and I'm trying to keep her safe. I want nothing more than to keep my girl safe. I won't let anyone touch her.
Sophie reached her hand up and grasped my hand in both of hers, and cradled it close to her chest.
"Zayn.." I heard her mumble in her sleep.
I laid back down next to her, only to pull her onto my chest again. She wrapped her small arm around my waist and hid her face in the crook of my neck. I wound my arms around her body, holding her in a protective embrace. Our legs entangled together and I gently ran my fingers through her hair.
"Zayn.. Don't let him take me.."
My heart dropped.
She's dreaming about her father. He's already found his way into her life, and now he's in her dreams. I don't want that for her. I don't want her to have to constantly worry about him. I want him gone. I want him to leave her alone. I want him caught by the cops. I want him dead, actually.
