She ran the fastest she ever had in her entire life. She couldn't believe what she saw. She wanted to get as far away from Kameron as possible. She had been starting to believe that supernaturals were real after seeing the videos and news reports but to see it with her own eyes. . .

She just continued to run until the trees cleared and she found herself in front of a huge lake. She'd been so focused on getting away from Kameron she hadn't realized she had made it out of the woods and the sun had long set, the full moon hanging high in the sky.

Kendall stopped in front of the lake, bent over, hands braced on her knees, panting as she tried to get her breath back.

It took several minutes for her to catch her breath but once she did, a new panic set in. She had no idea where she was or how she was going to get back to her house.

Ah shit. Where the hell am I?

She quickly pulled her phone out of her pocket and cursed when she saw her phone was completely dead. Shit, she thought to herself. Shit shit shit.

Her parents had been worried before when she was gone for too long, she had no doubt they would be freaking out right now.

She gave herself a mental kick for even going inside the woods, to begin with. All the horror stories she read featured something bad happening to a person whenever they went into the woods and with everything she'd been seeing on the news about supernaturals, she should have logically known being alone in the woods should have been the last place she should've been.

She gazed around the area, her terrified mind playing out scenarios that left did nothing to help ease her anxiety. She wished she was back home with her parents and that she could have at least run in the direction of her house.

She tried to calm down and pulled her tangled hair away from her face, trying to figure out what to do next. She needed to try to retrace her steps and hopefully find her way back to her house. When she saw Kameron. . .shapeshift. . . she'd been too focused on getting away from him and putting as much distance between them as possible to concentrate on staying on the trail so she was hopelessly lost. She hoped that she would be able to find her way to the trail and that it wouldn't be too hard to find her way back to her house.

It's going to be okay, she told herself. You're going to be fine.

She repeated the mantras over and over in her head as she hesitantly stepped into the woods and tried using the light of the moon to find her way. Unfortunately, the moon wasn't nearly as bright as it was in her dreams and she could barely see her hand in front of her face. She hoped she knew what she was doing.

Kendall didn't know how long she walked but she knew she was still lost. She probably should have stayed near the lake because she was more than likely in the heart of the woods and she was more at risk of predators than she was in the lake.

She paused by a tree and slumped to the ground, a panicked sob escaping her throat as she envisioned never being able to get back home, that she would die here and no one would ever find her. She was going to get stuck here and -
