The idea was to plant timed smoke grenades that were filled with the cure around the city. The timers would go off simultaneously and spread through and well past the city, curing anything and everything affected throughout the country. You and Sans started working on designing these timed bombs immediately while Alphys worked on finding the point where the liquid turned to gas and cured the other feral monsters they had in the labs. More or less everyone that could safely plant the bombs around the city. With all these cured monsters roaming the Underground now, hope rose amongst the humans and monsters alike, you, Sans, and Alohys were praised as heros for finding the cure, though you and Sans both denied it and gave credit to the man who was no longer with them, Dr. Gaster. He was the one who discovered it first and gave Sans the means to the cure, after all. Still, Papyrus was extremely proud of his brother for recreating the cure and celebrations were most definitely had between him, President Savanah, and you three 'scientists'. Though you didn't consider yourself one, you didn't have a PhD, you only did what Sans told you to.

It took roughly two weeks for the bombs to be made and filled with the gaseous cure. Papyrus gathered the feral, Sans included, to debrief them on their mission which, from what you could tell, was going to take a few days to stage. It was a big city after all, it was a lot of ground to cover on foot. You were going to miss Sans while he was gone. At least you had Papyrus to talk to while he was out. No doubt it would all be nostalgia talk too, which was nice to hear. Papyrus had great stories about him and Sans in their younger years. There was Savanah too, whom you were starting to become pretty good friends with. "gracious." You looked at Sans as he approached, a case of carefully concealed bombs in hand. "Time for you to go?" You guessed, to which he nodded. "yeah. i'll be quick though. come right back to ya." You shared a hug and a kiss before he went to say goodbye to Papyrus. "do what you do best, bro, don't cause any trouble."
"I WON'T BROTHER, [Y/N] AND I WILL WAIT FOR YOUR RETURN." Sans flashed you both his signature smile before the tamed feral headed out.🧟♂️🧟♂️🧟♂️
The clocked ticked loudly as you and Papyrus did your own thing, trying to pass time as quickly as possible. Finally you sighed, snapping your book shut. "Wanna talk?" Papyrus sighed in relief, turning off the TV. "YES PLEASE. I CAN ONLY WATCH THE SAME RERUNS OF THE GLORIOUS METTATON SO MANY TIMES BEFORE I GET BORED."
"I heard that Mettaton will be starting up his acting career again now that the apocalypse is ending." You offered to Papyrus. Alphys had said as such a few days back. "REALLY?!" Papyrus jumped up, tail wagging with excitement. It was still a bit weird, seeing the General like this, but you didn't complain. It was a welcome change since he was technically your brother-in-law in monster terms. "Really, really. Alphys told me so." He ran in excited circles before he caught himself and cleared his throat. "AH, THAT IS VERY GOOD NEWS INDEED. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING HIM LIVE AGAIN, I MISS HIM- I MEAN, HIS PERFORMANCE!" You quirked a brow and gave him a devious smile. "You and Mettaton, ey?" Papyrus blushed immediately. "NO!" You laughed at his embarrassment. "If he's 'the one' go for it, Sans won't stop you."🧟♂️🧟♂️🧟♂️
Eventually you convinced Papyrus to see Mettaton. It was really good to see him happy with who you believed was his soulmate. That left you alone in the house though, while Sans was gone. It wasn't like this hadn't happened before, when Sans was in rut. You didn't stay at the house to often, opting to walk around the Underground and check on its residents. You did this day by day until one day in Waterfall... "Thank you.." You looked at the Echo Flower your hand had brushed against. You touched it again. "For making my son's happy." You touched it again. "For helping Sans." And again. "Loving him." And again. "Believing in him." You were about to do it again. "gracious, where's pap?" You looked to Sans and smiled. "Welcome back. He's with Mettaton, actually." You replied with that devious glint returning to your eyes. Sans decided not to question it. "welp, it's been done, the bombs are in place, gonna go off in a few hours. what were you doing?" You looked at the Echo Flower and touched it. "We were free, I can't believe we are back here again.." It echoed. "Listening to the flowers." You decided to respond.

A scout team was sent out 24 hours later to check on the feral. When they came back with good news, people started leaving the Underground immediately, happy to finally have their world back again. The monsters were more than happy to be free again and with them breathing in the cure, they were likely gaining an immunity to ferality. It finally happened. The apocalypse had ended and life could go back to normal... well, as normal as it could get after a feral apocalypse. You leaned into Sans as you stared out into the city. "I think he's alive." Sans gave you a curious look. "The Echo Flower, it thanked me for making its 'son's' happy. I think he's alive, but stuck somewhere." Sans frowned. "you're talking about my..." You nodded. "I wanna go back to Waterfall, find more clues." Sans seemed a bit uneasy, but obliged you. If he could get him back, he'd be extremely happy. At some point you both ended up getting lost in a section of Waterfall that Sans didn't even know about. And Sans knew every inch of Waterfall. That's where you found it... a grey door.
Heheheheh, there we go, you found it, Gaster's as good as free if you've read previous feral aus of mine. The apocalypse is done, the book finished. I think I'll give this shout out to Iaclagg1 who has given shout out of a couple of my books so far. They have this cool thing on GB Sans and aus like that going. I plan a GB Sans story myself though I don't know how long it'll be. Sorry. In the meantime, I have many, many others. Have a good morning/afternoon/night!
