It was just after 6 when we walked up your mate's driveway. We had just gotten to the house when we heard a crash from around back. We all went running toward the sound. We came around the house to see our mate sitting on the ground surrounded by what looked like a broken window shouting the most interesting not-curse-word-curses while tears ran down her cheeks.

"Miren!" I shouted when I saw her, the scent of blood in the air driving me to near panic.

"Toren?" she said, looking confused "STOP" she shouted when went to step closer "there's glass everywhere"

"It's fine sweetheart" I said, stepping closer noticing the small cuts on her face and the red staining her arms and pant legs. "What happened sweet?" I asked her crouching down to take a look at her hands and arms.

"I was trying to replace the window" she huffed "but the stupid thing was a lot heavier than I thought and I dropped it like an idiot" she was tried to wipe the tears her face unfortunately it was just smearing blood across her cheeks.

"Rowan, Roman, find something to clean the glass up" I threw over my shoulder. "Why don't we get you into the house? '' I asked, offering a hand to help her up. When she got to her feet I could see that she was in pain.

"How bad are your legs?" I was worried that the cuts were deeper than they appeared.

"They're fine" she told me "it's just my foot is a little sore" she tells me flushing a beautiful shade of red "I dropped the damn window on it" she pulled her hand from mine, trying not to look at me.

I was reaching to take her hand to help her inside when Ash suddenly appeared from behind me. In flash he was holding her against his chest, princess carry. Miren let out a small squeak, obviously not expecting to be picked up.

She stared at Ash for a second before she seemed to process what had just happened.

"Pppp..pput me down" she stammered out "I'm too heavy to be carried"

"No" Ash said, simply turning to head into the house. I couldn't help but laugh, if our mate didn't think that we could and would very willingly carry her for the rest of our life she was in for a surprise.

"Can you grab the first aid kit?" Ash asked me, hooked one of the kitchen chairs with his foot so that he could set Miren down in it gently.

"It's under the sink in the kitchen" Miren says quietly, hands fisted as if she was worried about touching him.

"Oh god" she groaned "this is so embarrassing"

I grabbed the first aid kit from under the sink and came over to sit in the chair next to her so that I could clean the cuts on her arm and face while Ash took care of her legs.

"What were you thinking trying to take that window out by yourself?" I scold not being able to hold back knowing our mate was in pain.

"Well it's not like I had much of a choice" she was angry now "I didn't have anyone to help me" her lips started to quiver and I saw the tears well in her eyes.

"I'm sorry sweetheart, I didn't mean to lecture" I wiped the tears from checks with my thumb "I gave you my number, why didn't you call me if you needed help?"

She huffed at me, using her shirt to wipe her face "you don't call a guy you just met to ask him to help you replace a window" she rolled her eyes as if this was obvious.

"Why not?" Ash asked. When he spoke Miren looked up at him. Ash was standing in front of her with cleaner and more bandages in hand. Our poor mate stared up at him, her mouth coming open again. When Ash had picked her up it had all happened so fast she hadn't had a chance to really see him until she was already in his arms and at eye level.  But now Ash stood in front of her, perfectly still as if she was a fawn he was afraid of frightening.

She stared at him for a second long, her head all the way back to see his face "just because" she stated, turning back to look down at her arm.

Ash knelt down in front of her and started untying her boots.

"Just because, isn't a good reason" I told her sternly.

"Be..be..because" she stuttered out "it's rude to expect a guy you just met to help you with things like that."

"No it isn't" Ash said, pulling off her boots and socks "Men are supposed to protect and take care of their women"

Miren just stared at him as if he had said something truly awe inspiring. I looked between the two. Maybe this wasn't going to be as difficult as I thought.
