A Nurse Among Wolves

Chapter 25: Miren

When I woke up my head hurt. Why did my head hurt? Oh yah, I got kidnapped. Well slap me and call me Daphne. The room was dark except for the light coming from a fire. I turned my head slowly taking in what looked like a one room cabin with a large central fireplace. Standing around the fires there were two large men. Not as big as Ash but still far bigger then myself. I started to shake involuntarily. What were they going to do to me? It was at that exact moment that one of the men turned my way. Our eyes met and I froze. His eyes were dead, hollow, like whatever spark that keeps us alive me had died in him a long time ago. He took a step towards as one of the other men grabbed his arm.
"Leave her be" the man other man said "she is not for us"
The dead eyed man turn towards the other "but she is omega" he said, his voice like rocks scraping together.
"That is not why she is here" he said, finally turning towards me. This man was different from the other. His eyes weren't dead, just empty and sad.
"You have no need to fear us little one" he said to me quietly "we won't touch you"
"I..if you did bring me here to hurt me then why did you take me" I manage to ask, trying to keep from biting my tongue as I shook.
"We brought you here because you are the quickest way for us to find peace" the sad man said quietly.
It took me a full minute to understand what he was saying "you mean you want to die? But what does that have to do with me?" I just couldn't understand what was going on.
"We took another alphas mate" he explained, staring into he fire "when he comes he will kill us and we will finally be free"
"But why do you want to die so badly?" I just couldn't understand, what could possibly make this man want to die so badly he would set himself up to be killed.
"We have no mate" he murmured, "I have been alone for nearly 500 years and have never known the peace of a mate". He spoke with such pain and longing I couldn't help the tears that fell down my cheeks.
"Don't cry little one, your mates will be here soon and then it will be over and you can go back to pack and be happy."
"Do you honestly think that I will ever be ok about this?!" I was almost shouting now "do you think that watching a man die at the hands of my mate because of me will ever be ok!"
The sad man hung us head "I don't know what else to do" he whispered "all this time and my mate has never come"
"Then go out and find her you dumbass!" I was actually yelling at this point "are you so ducking stupid that you think she would just fall into your lap begging to be your mate" my capture as looking at me know, eyes wide as if the thought had never occurred to him to go look for his mate.
"If you want to live in the life you have to fight for it. You have to wake up everyday willing to fight tooth and claw for it and when the world tried to take it away you have to be willing to burn it to the ground to get it back. That's what it means to love someone" I finished my rant gasping for breath "love is is like having a knife in your heart, it's only when someone pulls it out that you bleed" I finished quietly, hanging ummm my head. The room was silent for a long moment before the man spoke.
"You are very wise for one so young" he told me "and for that wisdom i owe you a great debt". He walked over and knelt I'm front of me. "I will do as you as, but this pledge I offer to you and your pack. If you ever have need of help you need only call" he bows his head, placing his fist over his heart "I pledge myself to your service until the day my debt is fulfilled"
"If you want to reply me you'll get out of here before my mates find you. Go find your mate, be happy" I tell him "for all you know she's waiting for you to come save her just like mine are doing" at this he raised his head, eyes going wide before he smiled soft at me.
"Yes, I think you might be right" he helped me stand before turning to the dead eyes man and guiding him towards the door.
"Wait" I call " what's your name?"
That sad eyed man turning and smiled "Cassias" he says before disappearing out the door and into the night. I was all alone now except for the growing sense that Ash was very close now.
It took only a moment before Ash came bursting out on the bushes surrounding the cabin. If it wasn't for the fact that I could physically feel that it was Ash I would have never know it was him. The beautiful white wolf with swirling silver marking was now a giant glowing beast, 3 times Ash's normal size. Where Ash's gentle loving violet eyes once were, silver glowing pools remained. Something was wrong with Ash, I just didn't know what it was. I took a carful "Ash? It's me Miren".
The wolf started moving towards me, I stayed as still as I possibly could, barely even breathing. When he stood in front of me he stopped as if he was waiting for me make the next move. I slowing brought me hand up and payed it against his cheek, just like I did the first day Ash had shown me his wolf form.
All the sudden the wolf was gone and I'm his place stood Ash, human, naked, and still glowing.
"Mate" he whispered, pulling me into his arms "mine".
I threw me arms around him in return "yes, yours" I told him "always and forever".
