Part 21
***
Back in your room now, you'd been tossing around for the last hour. You couldn't stop thinking about tomorrow. About The Time Heist. Back in the War Room with everyone else, you felt so sure about tomorrow, excited almost. You'd be getting your family back.. your old life.. Clint.

The only problem was, you'd actually have to succeed at getting all the stones first. And even then, it wasn't guaranteed your old life would be yours again. You knew deep down things would never be the same. And if you failed to get all the stones... would you lose Clint all over again?

The fear of failure tomorrow and the consequences that failing might bring were what was keeping you up. Things had been going really well between you and Clint, but if this didn't work, what happens then? Clint goes back to being a vigilante while you spend the rest of your days with a broken heart? You didn't trust that he'd stick around... He didn't last time.

After another agonizing half hour of feeling wide awake, you finally sit up and throw your feet over the edge of the bed. Your heart was racing from all the anxiety in your system. All you wanted to do was be in Clint's arms. If this was possibly the last night you'd be together, then you wanted to spend it with him.

Heading to the door, you turn the knob slowly and step out into the dark hallway. It was quiet aside from the slight squeaking sound from your door as you shut it. Slowly, you approach Clint's door, trying to work up what you wanted to say, but then his door opens and you find yourself face to face with Clint. There was a moment of silence while your eyes locked, then Clint laughs gently.

"Hey, shouldn't you be in bed, young lady?" He asks, causing you to loosen up instantly.

"Well, I was, but I just can't seem to fall asleep." You smile, making Clint grin and lean against his door frame. He crossed his arms over his chest, showing off his sleeve tattoo.

"Oh? So you want to take me up on that offer then?" He teases, making a soft blush dust your cheeks. Good thing it was dark in the hallway. In response, you sigh playfully and shake your head.

"You gonna let me in or not?"

Clint chuckles softly and steps aside, making room for you to walk past him and into his room. His room wasn't the cleanest, but it was still probably the cleanest he's ever managed to keep it. There were a few shirts and other clothing items strewn about, as well as a desk in the corner that was overflowing with notebooks and file folders.

For a moment, your chest ached. What if this was the last time you'd see his room like this? Or even be in the same room as him.

When you don't immediately move toward the bed, Clint's hands come to gently rest of your hips. His thumbs gently slip under the hem of your shirt to rub against your warm skin before his arms wrap around your completely, pulling your back to his chest.

"Everything ok?" He asks in a gentle tone, causing you to sigh and relax back against him. He adjusted his stance a little as you did in order to support you better and waited for an answer.

"Yeah. This whole mission is just a lot more stressful than I imaged it to be. I thought I'd be excited, and I guess I am, but... but what if we don't succeed tomorrow. If we can't pull this off, then what?" Clint frowns and holds you a little tighter.

"We aren't going to fail. We're gonna pull this off." He says, voice firm, but not in an angry way.

"Clint, seriously. Just for a moment, let's say this doesn't work. Then what?" You ask again, your voice cracking just slightly near the end. You hadn't realized just how much this had been bothering you until now. Clint paused a moment and then slowly pushed you away so he could turn you around to face him.
