CHAPTER SIX: THE MONSTER

"okay how the hell did this happen?" Steve muttered he studied the cut on the back of her head once more.

he raised the rag back, placing it over the wound. Valerie bits her tongue when it stings and watches her brother check his watch. she sighs and completely brushes the question away.

"do you have somewhere to be?" she asked him while avoiding his eyes.

"no no.. it's completely fine." Steve mumbles as he pulls the rag away and backs up, studying his sister. "now answer my question, how did this happen?"

"Mike and Lucas fought and I tried to pull them away, Lucas backed up into me and i lost balance, falling onto a rock." she simply lied. Steve furrows his eyebrows, not believing her but he nods anyways.

hopping off the counter, Valerie hurries to the door and slips on her shoes. "I'll be at Lucas!"

she didn't wait for a reply because she hurried out the door and climbed on her bike. as she pedaled, thoughts from yesterday flowed back into her mind. the anger made her tighten her grip on her handles to were her knuckles turned white.

how could Mike still trust her?

once she made to the Sinclars, she saw Mike and Dustin arguing over who should knock. the boys noticed the girl and how her hair was tied into a bun, the scar clearly noticeable, if someone knew it was there to begin with. she saw them looking, and walked up to the door knocking for herself. she choose to be petty. when Lucas opened the door, she smiled softly.

"what do you want?" he spoke annoyed at all of them.

"i don't about them but I want to hang out." Lucas nodded at her statement and let her in.

ether no nether of them want the other two, Dustin and Mike followed inside.

Mike wanted to shake but Lucas had to think on it. he walked back and forth various of times, causing Mike to become impatient. "okay i'll shake.." Mike smiled and stuck his hand out, only for Lucas to continue. "if that weridos out and we got straight to the gate."

"then the deals off!" Mike yelled, shaking his head as he dropped his arm quickly and stepped back.

"Oh my lord Micheal!" Valerie shouted, Lucas standing beside her with the same angry expression.

"Guys stop, we have to stick together!" Dustin yelled suddenly.

"yes us!" Valerie shouted back as she gestured to the four in the room. she tried and tried to become friends with El but she lied so many times and because of her, Valerie had a concussion.

"this party is in this room," Lucas added on to Valerie's statement.

"el is one of us now," Mike argued, shaking his head.

"you are so fucking clueless Mike! put your girl problems to the side for just a moment! a moment Micheal! El only sucks up to you and let's be real, because she doesn't know any better!" Valerie yelled, like full of yelled. Mike stared at her in disbelief.

"We need El. We can't fight it alone!" Mike spat back but stopped when he saw Valerie shake her head sadly.

"do whatever the fuck you want with El, but I'm sticking with Lucas." she shrugs, passing Mike to leave the room. Lucas follows her soon after.

Valerie found herself looking at compass again with Lucas beside her as they rode their bikes through town. they were trying to find the gate. just the two of them.

coming up to Hawkins lab, which the kids didn't know about, Valerie tosses down her bike and approaches the gate that surrounded the building.

"here... let's climb this tree and maybe we can see in," she had shrugged before beginning to climb the tree, Lucas following shortly after.

they hadn't just found something. they found a suspicious lab. suspicion filled Valerie as she looked at Lucas who had his binoculars to his face.

"what the hell." they muttered in unison, sharing a look of uneasiness.
