CHAPTER SEVEN: THE BATHTUB

Valerie, Lucas, and Dustin all stood in the gym of the school trying to set up a kiddy pool, for Eleven.

"you guys deal with this, i'm getting that hose." Valerie mutters before running out of the gym, her converse squeaking against the polish floors, over Dustin and Lucas playful bricking.

once she was outside, she wrapped her arms around herself and stopped in her tracks when she saw Nancy and Mike. as much as she didn't want to interrupt, she wanted to get this over with and by getting it over with, they needed the hose.

"hey i hate to interrupt, but we need the water." she spoke up, causing them to look over at her, nodding. Nancy had left, leaving Mike and Valerie by themselves.

"can you help me with these?" Mike raised his arms to show her the two hoses. with a nod, she taken one and sped up her walking so she didn't have to be with him for long.

"so, do you like eleven?" she asked. it was as if she wasn't thinking before she spoke but once it slipped, she wish it didn't.

"gosh no. why does everyone keep asking?" mike groaned as Valerie sent him a small look of disbelief, shaking her head.

"look mike we don't care if you do," her voice became soft as she tried to push the hurt down. she has been acting like she doesn't care, but oh she definitely does.

"i don't. trust me V."mike assured her as they locked eye contact for a minute before Valerie walked forward.

"okay.." she whispered, mostly to herself.

after getting everything set up, Eleven slowly stepped inside. then eventually, her whole body was in and she was floating.

soon after Eleven began to float, the lights flickered. everyone looked up calmly and waited for Eleven to continue.

"Barbara?" was heard from Eleven and everyone shared each other looks.

a few seconds after Eleven said Barbs name she began breathing heavy. Nancy looked over at Valerie. "what's going on?" she whispers to the girl beside her.

the young girl sent her a sympathetic look before shrugging. "i don't know." she whispers before looking ahead at Mike who shared her a soft smile.

"Is she okay? Is Barb okay?"

"gone! gone!" Eleven screamed, referring to Barb. Valerie placed a comforting hand on Nancy's shoulder as she began to look down, letting tears roll down her cheeks.

"castle byers.."

Valerie looked at Joyce who looked at Eleven with a worried expression. She then trailed her eyes to her friends who had their eyes rested on Eleven.

"will?"

the name grabbed everyone's attention, of course. Valerie stood up, and walked over to sit next to mike. he looked at her before grabbing her hand.

"you t-tell him I'm coming! mom is coming!" Joyce shouted frantically, while looking at Eleven.

"hurry." came from the walkie-talkie, and everyone's head snapped to it. that was Will's voice.
