Summary: In which Robin mentions the handkerchief to Eddie and they basically come out to each other. Eddie mentions how Robin obviously likes Nancy and him and Steve tease her about- until Nancy herself appears.
Honestly I like this a lot more than I thought but I cannot for the life of me think of a good title since this was originally gonna just be Robin and Eddie being friends but turned into Ronance too kasjdnaskjdn

Robin had seen the handkerchief in Eddie's back pocket months ago but has yet to question him about it with everyone's focus being on Vecna instead. Of course, she has no reason to assume it means what she had learnt from one of her parents' random hippie friends in passing. The more she notices comments Eddie makes towards Steve, though, the more she realises that maybe she is right. Maybe it does mean what she thinks and maybe it means she has another person that is safe to come out to. Not that she had known Steve was going to react okay when she came out to him, but Russian drugs will certainly enhance one's ability to reveal secrets.
She starts to plan how to mention it, shortly after everything with Vecna is finally over. She's more confident than ever that it's a good idea. It's hard not to be certain with how blatantly obvious it is — to her at least — that Eddie flirts with Steve. Of course, no one else would ever catch on, least of all Steve himself. But as someone who is also gay, Robin knows that she must be right. Right?
Letting herself even have a little bit of doubt is fine, as even with Eddie's almost-definite crush that only she has noticed, it's always good to be wary. Eddie may have gained the nickname Eddie 'The Freak' Munson, but that would certainly be Robin if even one wrong person figures out she's a lesbian. The world is cruel like that.
It's the middle of Summer when she finally decides to bring it up with Eddie. She, him, and Nancy, have all graduated now — and Jonathan too though he finished his graduation at Lenora Hills High School. Nancy is set to go to Emerson College in a couple months — something that Robin finds herself irrationally upset about. Jonathan will be going to Lenora Community College with his friend Argyle. Robin only cares about that as she knows it's what caused a rift between him and Nancy and sparked their eventual breakup and Robin still feels for Nancy when she sees her upset. It was a mutual break up, luckily, but the fact Nancy often appears visibly sad when Jonathan is mentioned makes Robin sad in turn.
Her and Eddie both have no plans for any colleges, and are stuck figuring out what to do. She knows Eddie has ideas, but decided to wait a year first to bask in 'the freedom from the clutches of school' or something like that. Secretly, she's pretty sure he just wants to be able to spend more time around Steve before he does eventually find a college outside of Hawkins. And if that means waiting a year before leaving, then he's going to wait a year before leaving. Robin herself simply has no idea what she wants to do at all. She graduated well, and knows she could have easily gotten into a decent enough college. Maybe none of the best but still. All she knows is that she wants to leave to travel and explore the world's cultures outside of the suffocatingly small Hawkins, Indiana. But until she can figure out where she wants to go, and she can make money to be able to travel, she's stuck working a full-time job at Family Video with Steve Harrington.
Working at Family Video is what she's doing right now, on the day she's going to attempt to come out to Eddie. It's risky, doing it in a public space. But the store is about the only time she ever sees Eddie, hanging out with her and Steve. Mostly just Steve. Honestly, how is she the only one that notices how much Eddie likes him?
She told Steve her plan days ago. She didn't explain much except that the handkerchief is a code of sorts, and she has suspicions that she wants to try bringing up but wants him there as support just in case. She'd left out the part where she's sure that Eddie has a crush on Steve. And the part where she's noticed Steve look at Eddie the same way. That's a topic for another day though as she doubts Steve fully realises himself.
