I listened to Clarke panting and sobbing as she desperately scrubbed her hands trying to wash off the blood. It hurt knowing that Finn was gone, but it hurt even more seeing Clarke heartbroken once again.
I didn't know what to say to her that would make her feel better about the situation. The least I could do, however, was just sit with her and comfort her.
Abby and Kane both entered the tent and Abby knelt in front of Clarke. She grabbed Clarke's hands. "They would have tortured him. I had to. I--" Clarke sobbed.
"Ok. It's ok," Abby comforted.
"I had to." Abby pulled her daughter into a hug. "What did I do?"
We were interrupted when the tent opened and Gustus walked in. "The commander is ready to talk," he said. Clarke nodded and stood up as Lexa walked in with Indra, and she took a seat on her throne.
"Blood has answered blood," Lexa said. "Some on my side say that's not enough. They wanted the murderer to suffer as our tradition demands. But they do not know that your suffering will be worse. What you did tonight will haunt you until the end of your days. Still, there will be restitution. The body will be given to the people of Tondc. Murderer and murdered joined by fire. Only then can we have peace."
"No. No, we've done enough," Kane said. "The boy should be buried by his people."
"Enough?" Indra tested. "We were owed the pain of 18 deaths. We were owed our righteous kill. My village deserves justice."
"You don't want justice. You want vengeance," Abby argued.
"You have not seen my vengeance."
"We'll do it," Clarke spoke up. "But when it's over, we talk about how to get our people out of Mount Weather. All of our people."
"We want the same things, Clarke," Lexa said.
"Good. When do we leave?"
"Now." Lexa stood up. "Choose your attendants." She walked past Clarke and up to me. "Fragheda, I respect the bravery you hold for your people. What you did, your attempt at sacrifice really showed who you are." Lexa bowed her head to me and walked out.
Abby approached Clarke and said, "Clarke, you don't have to do this."
"Yes, I do," she disagreed. "If this truce doesn't hold... I killed Finn for nothing." She walked past her mother to leave the tent and I followed. Raven stood by the stake next to Finn's body, and I saw that was where Clarke was going. I knew Raven would be hurt by what Clarke did, and I didn't want to talk to her knowing she'd lash out at me for telling Clarke to do it.
I turned back to the gates of Camp Jaha, but I froze before taking another step. I didn't know what I had to do to prove to Skaikru that I wasn't a Grounder. I couldn't publicly announce to them who I was because when they found out I had a sister, Kane would be targeted. He executed Bellamy's mother for the crime of having a second child, but he also committed the same crime.
I stood outside the tent and watched Raven get mad at Clarke, and then at the Grounders for trying to take Finn.
I barely spoke to Clarke when we left for Tondc. She had too much on her mind. I stood behind her, though, with Abby and Kane behind me. I could feel Abby's eyes on me as she questioned what was going through my mind, then I heard her say, "She didn't cry at all when Finn died."
"No, but I know his death hurt her. She just doesn't show it," Kane told Abby. I didn't think they were aware that I could hear them.
"I had her as a patient many times on the Ark. She's not the type to hide emotions."
