After returning to the cave, I used some cloth from my bag to stop the bleeding from my nose, but it felt like the bone had shattered. I ended up falling asleep shortly after, only to wake up to the sound of Monty and Sinclair talking. They were discussing Raven.
"I don't understand it either. Something about those chips," Monty said.
"We'll know soon enough. Be ready," Sinclair responded.
I listened quietly before jumping to my feet, and I hurried over to where Sinclair, Monty, Anakin, and Eli were sitting. "What about this chip? What happened?" I asked, my voice filled with concern.
"Apparently, Raven took the chip," Monty said. "And according to Jasper, she doesn't remember Finn."
"Finn?" I questioned. "How does that even work?" I sat down next to Sinclair, still processing what I was hearing.
"According to Jasper, the chip removes every bad memory. But as a side effect, it also takes away any memory of the person who caused those bad memories," Sinclair explained.
"Even if they're still alive?" I asked, my heart racing.
Sinclair nodded. "I'd assume so, depending on how severe the memory is." I couldn't believe it. I had almost taken the chip myself, and if I had, I wouldn't remember my mom at all—or Esau. I wouldn't remember Lincoln, Pavil, or Aspen. I probably wouldn't even remember my own father. We had a rough patch, and I had abandoned him for ten years. That would definitely count as a bad memory.
The people who had sheltered me and Joan would vanish from my memory—Lexa, too. I'd lose the memories of so many people I loved. I almost threw it all away.
"Skaiplana," Eli spoke up, noticing the terrified look on my face.
I looked up at him. "We need to get it out of her head."
There was shuffling behind me, and I turned around to see Octavia hurriedly throwing items into her bag. "O, wait," Bellamy said, his voice laced with concern. "You can't just leave."
"Watch me," she replied without missing a beat.
"You heard what Jasper said on the radio. Arkadia is not safe."
"What Jasper said sounds insane," Octavia countered. "Pike's gone. I can handle myself." She threw her bag over her shoulder and stood tall. "Grounders burn their dead."
"I know that," Bellamy said, frustration creeping into his tone. "And then what? Where are you going to go?"
"You don't get to ask me that."
"What more do I have to do to prove that I am on your side?" Bellamy begged, his voice breaking.
Octavia stood straight, her expression hardening. "Bring Lincoln back."
She pushed past him. "Turning Pike in doesn't make you one of the good guys, Bellamy. You did that to save me, not because you thought what Pike was doing to the Grounders was wrong."
"The Grounders were starving us out," Bellamy shot back, trying to defend his actions.
"Because you massacred an army sent to protect us."
"That army could have attacked us at any time, and you know it."
"But they didn't attack. You did that. You were hurting, and you lashed out because that's what you do. There are consequences, Bel. People get hurt. People die. Your people. Monroe's dead. Lincoln is dead."
Octavia scoffed and stormed outside, not giving Bellamy another glance. I caught his eye for a moment, giving him a side glance. I could never forgive him for massacring an army or attempting to raid a Grounder village. I couldn't forgive him for siding with Pike. But I knew he never intended for Lincoln to be executed. Octavia was there when Lincoln chose to give himself up. It had been inevitable, and it would've happened no matter what side Bellamy was on.
