May 1978
Little Clara sat on the swings of her school playground when she saw something strange going on. She saw a fight break out between two of the boys in the grade above her. One boy threw a punch while the other got the fist to his forearm. She sprinted over to the situation to check out the situation. "What's going on?"
"None of your business, Clara." The kid responded in a rude manner.
"I wasn't talking to you, Harold." Clara denied his response and looked to the other boy. "What happened?"
"He tried taking my lunch money."
Clara looked at Harold with an irritated expression. "Harold, why are you stealing lunch money? Don't you dare respond with none of your business or I'll throw you into Mercury."
"What's Mercury?"
Clara rolled her eyes. "It's a planet, dingus. Now, leave him alone or I'll do worse than throw you into a planet."
Harold huffed at Clara's threat and walked away from Clara and the boy. Clara looked towards the boy who was still worn out from fighting. "Are you alright?"
"Sort of, he did have a wicked punch." The boy answered honestly. "Why'd you help me?"
"Because I'm a good person and I always try to look out for the little guy like I was taught." Clara answered honestly.
"I'm not little." The boy pouted.
"It's a saying." Clara clarified.
"Oh."
"You should probably get you to the nurse." She snapped him out of his embarrassed daze. "You'll start bruising soon."
"Yeah." The boy nodded. "I don't know where the nurse is."
Clara chuckled at his cluelessness and started walking away. "Follow me."
The two kids walked inside of the school with Clara leading the boy through the school. As they walked, a bunch of kids greeted Clara while no one recognized the boy behind her. It was like he was invisible to the others.
They continued walking until they reach the nurse's office. "Here you are." Clara gestured to the room in front of them with her hands. "Hope you get better, Steve."
The boy was stunned at the fact that she knew his name. "Wait, how do you-"
"I just know things." She interrupted him. "Kidding. You're in my science class. You think I don't see you?" Steve stood there, not responding, giving Clara her answer. "See you later, Steve."
